Recommendation Nib Repair Northern Va/washington Dc

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Hopefully this is the right folder to post. Received a beautiful Montblanc Meisterstuck 90 year anniversary pen. Been using it pretty heavily but would like to go down from a Medium to a Fine. Any shop recommendations for nib tune/custom in the NOVA or DC region?

Thank you

I doubt that Fahrneys does this in house. Take it to the Baltimore Pen Show at the end of next month. There will be a number of nib tech and pen mechanics at the show who can do the work. We will be there, as will Mike and Linda Kennedy.

Baltimore pen show is good. I go to Fahrney's often, as I live in the area, and they may be able to do it. There's also Bertram's inkwell, and some nib mechanics come in and out of there - I believe they have a schedule somewhere. They are off Rockville Pike. But as Ron Z said, the Baltimore pen show (or any pen show) is probably your best bet

Question: I just checked out the pen show website. Are vendors usually able to do it on the spot or at least within couple of hours or do they require clients to return the next day? I'm asking to see if I'll have to buy a 1 day pass or a 2 day pass. I've never been to a pen show before, although I've always wanted to. Is there a limit to how many ticket they sell? Do I need to buy them now before they are sold out?

Thanks for the help!

Most of the repair/nib people have a sign in sheet to manage the queue. Repairs/nib work that can be done at the show are done on the spot. Other, more involved repairs are taken home, and go into the regular queue. Saturdays we tend to have a two or three pen limit, so that we can serve as many clients as possible. My advice is to get there early to sign in, and enjoy the show while you wait.

Many thanks for the reply.

My personal experience was that I was expecting to leave my pens with the repairman. I wasn't concerned about having them back immediately - they'd sat for a decade anyway. I simply wanted to meet the person(s) that were going to work on the pens before handing them over.

I'd say my experiences were good, and I'd vouch for both Sherrell Tyree and Danny Fudge. I haven't met Ron as of yet :)

I've had good chances with nibmeisters either the first day of the show or the last day. Friday and Saturday is usually very busy and their queue list fill up really fast.
