Is A Bock Ti F Cursive Italic Advisable?

I ordered a Conid Minimalistica some time ago, and it should be coming in February some time.

I ordered with a Bock Ti nib in F, and asked for a cursive italic grind & I'm having second thoughts, in that:

  1. I'm not sure there's enough material with a F nib to get a CI grind and
  2. As far as I've read, Ti nibs have more finickiness than other materials, so the risk of a misgrind is higher.

Are my fears warranted and/or should I contact Conid and ask for a straight F nib (no custom grind)?

Thanks!

I received one of these in August/September last year.

1. There is enough material.

2. This is a real. See below.

I had read a number of people absolutelt *loved* their FCI's from Conid, and as an avid CI fan, I was keen to try my first Ti nib with this grind.

Bear in mind, my pen was one of the last to come through at a time when they were under significant pressure from their backlog, and people were waiting months past their due date for their pens, so there was a lot of disgruntlement (see threads here for the flavour).

Anyway, my pen arrives and the nib was awful. The grind was uneven and, because the titanium is so responsive, it would get what we used to call the death wobbles: it would almost be vibrating when I wrote with it, making it feel quite erratic and scratchy. I guess it only passed QC because of the pressure they were under to deliver.

Anyway, I sent it to Mark Bacas who tweaked it and it is now one of my favourites, having seemingly permanently displaced the Sailor 21K H-M that I was using in the Minimalistica.

So, yes, a Ti Fine Cursive Italic can be a magnificent writing experience. I would wait for it to arrive and trust, like the majority of people who received their Ti CI's from Conid before the Great Blockage, that it will be superb, now that they have taken the pressure off themselves. If it isn't, it's an easy fix.

Enjoy your Conid, they are a terrific pen!

Vintage. Cursive italic. Iron gall.

The last time I wrote with my Conid Minimalistica/Bock 0.45 Ti was yesterday, and I'll do so again later today. Lovely nib, delightful pen.

Add lightness and simplicate.
