Kwz Ink Sheen Machine

Sheen Machine is the latest release from KWZI. As the name suggests, it's one of those heavily saturated red-sheened blue inks. Arguably KWZI jumped on the sheeny bandwagon a bit late. Diamine, for example, seems to have tons of them already under with different "exclusive" labels (Maureen for Cult Pens, Skull & Roses for German market, and another one for the Philippines, etc.). But as can be expected from KWZI this is a very smooth and wet ink. It's a pleasure to write with.

Such sheen-heavy inks tend to dry very slowly and smear badly. I'm glad to report that the KWZI dries reasonably fast, even though in the splash it looks like a blob of wet ink - but it's totally dried. And it doesn't smear at all with a dry finger when the ink has totally dried.
The only fault I can find in this ink is that it tends to dry out on the nib uncapped. Merely 20 seconds suffice to cause hard-starting, although it's not difficult to make it start again.

I really like it, but found that it took 2 minutes and 30 seconds to dry fully on Leuchtturm paper (didn't test it on others but it seemed to be a slow dryer on Tomoe) and found it didn't give nib dry out issues (although it is in a very wet Visconti nib at present). It did bleed quite a bit on the Leuchttrum paper, but not on Tomoe, although there is quite significant show through, but no actual bleed.

I think dry time and dry-out on nib have to do with humidity. It's very dry here currently. I imagine it would dry more slowly and have less dry-out on the nib in a more humid place.

Good point, it's been very, very humid here for the last week and a half.

I think it may also be the Visconti nib too - it's seriously wet.

I immediately knew your review would be here, when you posted the ink on Instagram! Nice review, and while massive sheen does not make me want to compromise on ink properties, it does seem Konrad has yet another good ink on his hands, even if not one for me. Your comparisons however have me wanting to try out J Herbin Bleu de Profondeurs and KWZ Blueblack!

Oh Bleu des Profondeurs is definitely worth trying. KWZIBB is still in testing. :)

Any idea how this compares to Organics Studio Thoreau Walden Pond? I saw this at Vanness. Wasn't sure if I wanted or not. Its KWZ so I might be interested. Is this part of the regular lineup?

I believe it is part of the regular lineup. I have no idea about the OS. I’ve never used any OS inks.

Is this easy to clean from the pen?

Great review!  I especially love the comparisons.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
