That is a beautiful collection! Those LeonArco celluloids are so lovely. I like my Gold Amethyst enough I have an Abalone on order.

Leonardo's newest shape is the "Essenza Poliedrica." It has a triangular cross section with rounded angles, if that makes sense. The section has this shape also.

I ordered one a few weeks ago in a green-purple-brownish resin by Bob Dupras. The one I received had more purple than expected. It reminded me so strongly of a Mardi Gras King Cake's frosting that I imediately offered it to my NOLA nephew. He loves it. Since then, Leonardo has made this model in a variety of resins and ebonites. One has been offered as an exclusive limited edition by an Italian pen shop. It is in Bob Dupas's "Kingfisher" resin. I had already acquired a Momento Zero in that material from the same shop and liked it a lot. This Poliedrica did not disappoint!

I find the shape very comfortable to use. The material is gorgeous, IMO. The nib writes well but really needs a rather dry ink to produce good line variation.

How about some photos, you say? It just happens I have a few.

Here is a photo with the Poliedrica's Momento Zero sibling:

And with a couple other pens of note with triangular bodies - an OMAS 360 and a Newton Prospector:

I did recently purchase another Poliedrica in a gorgeous green ebonite. I'll share that in another reply.

Enjoy!

Another Leonardo Essenza Poliedrica. This one is clipless and is made of one of the most stunning ebonites I have ever seen.

These ebonite pens are just gorgeous. Please Leonardo stop making these beauties, you are killing my savings account.

Very nice! What's the one on the left? Ebonite and resin, or . . . ?

That's one I bought second hand; it's a Momento Zero with black resin and green ebonite, and a black steel JoWo nib.

Supposedly a Pen Chalet exclusive (250 made), but that's all I know.

My clutch of MZGs in celluloid has grown to three members:

  • A LeonArco Gold-Amethyst MZG with 1.1mm stub.
  • A LeonArco Abalone MZG with 1.1mm stub.
  • A Shell Mother of Pearl MZG with Medium nib.

These photos from my phone don’t do them justice. I’ll have to pull out my nice camera later to get some better ones to share.

I have recently purchased this new take on modern flex nib; Leonardo's collaboration with a dealer from Italy, Corsani, for which they prepared this special and limited edition of just 10 pens with their new flex nib.

Impressive handwriting. That nib is not the usual "Elastic" nib with the cutout from the wings. Do you know how the flexibility was achieved? A custom grinding? Different alloy?

And I am becoming very fond of Leonardo's Poliedrica pens. I have two, so far, and find them quite comfortable to write with. I do wish the nibs were not glued in, so I could swap them for nibs that are crisper.

Anyway, congratulation for that special pen!

You are right, this is not their regular elastic nib, rather a very special flex nib.

I will copy paste what I wrote in another thread:

Unfortunately this is not a regular nib; as I understand it, they have to manually hammer these nibs out, going step by step, measuring with a caliper as they go, so they come in extremely small quantities. This edition came with just 10 pens, and they previously released a limited edition of this nib with 3 models and just 5 units per model, so 15 in total. I am unaware this nib has been installed anywhere else.

Previous releases:

Essenza poliedrica Tamenuri black - FLEX nib - eyedropper – leonardopen

Cigar Ebonite skeleton - FLEX Nib - SOLD OUT – leonardopen

Cigar Green/pearl celluloid - FLEX Nib – leonardopen

New release, at the time of writing 1 pen is still available. Limited to 4 pieces:

Essenza poliedrica ebonite Rust - FLEX nib - eyedropper – leonardopen

And the pen I have:

Corsani Poliedrica Flex - Penne Stilografiche Roma e Vendita Online Penne, Orologi, Pelletteria

Interesting. The nib is hammered thin, not ground?

I am trying to avoid more pen purchases (with only limited success), waiting to see what special pens are offered at the San Francisco Pen Show in about a month.

Happy writing!

I actually don't know, neither why I chose the word hammered, I guess my emphasis was that it's a lot of manual labor, hence the scarcity.

I understand avoiding purchasing new pens. I mean I understand the concept, in practice I'm terrible at it...

David, congratulations on your acquisition. How do you like the nib, and how does it compare with other Flex nibs that you may have tried? You are one of the first few I have met to have used this nib, and am eager to hear more.

I do hope Leonardo brings a few pens with this nib to the SF Pen show as well.

May I ask some questions, here, about the Leonardo piston?

I just received the Leonardo MZG 2.0 Dahlia Eveline with beautiful #8 nib from Stilo e Stile.  I'm very eager to ink it up.  But upon unscrewing the piston, I noticed that it doesn't fully extend down to the ink window like my MZG 2.0 Sand.  The picture below shows what I mean.

Has Leonardo changed the piston design, or should that piston fully extend?  The piston knob on the Dahlia also turns much more smoothly than either the Sand or my other MZG, both of which have have a slight ratchet-like tactile feel to the mechanism.

I'd be so grateful to hear your thoughts so I can determine if I need to contact Stilo e Stile before inking up this beauty.

The piston should extend all the way down, as it does with your MSG 2.0 Sand.

If you have the Leonardo piston tool and are comfortable doing so, you could remove the piston and see if it seems properly assembled. Or you could just ask for an exchange from StiloeStile.

Good luck. It's a beautiful pen and a great nib. It should be "right."

Thank you, David. I suspected that was the case.  I'm comfortable disassembling a TWSBI piston, but don't want to risk it with this more expensive pen.  I'll reach out to Stilo e Stile and see what they say.

Cheers!

Jennifer

I've had problems with my piston in my brand new Leonardo Momento Magico, and it would leak ink profusely. It turned out that my barrel had a larger diameter in the middle compared to the ends. If the piston was resting in the middle, ink or air would just run past the piston. It was unrepairable aside from getting a new barrel. I chose to return the pen instead. I contacted Leonardo customer service throughout this ordeal, and after a less than favorable response, I decided I will not get these pens any more.

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

One of Leonardo's limited editions in their in-house (I believe) celluloid. The shape is their "Furore Grande."

The ink is Leonardo Taurasi.
