Beginner Fp For Small - Quite Small Hands

Thank you so much, everyone for your generous replies. I've realised that I really need to do some research to understand what works for me and what doesn't. I made the mistake of assuming that because my hands are small, I would necessarily need a thin/small/lightweight pen. I went back to my little collection and realised this wasn't true. The thinnest pens I have - Rotring Esprit and Camlin Sleek - are not very comfortable for my hands. But my ASA Rainbow, a fairly large pen is not comfortable either.

Anyway, I've decided to do some hands-on research with other pens in my collection. Inspired by the learnings shared on the OPOM challenge, I'm going to do something similar with my pens. Once I have enough data on what I enjoy, I'll return to scratch your heads again! Once again, thank you to everyone who replied for their time and suggestions.

I find the comfort of a pen depends on grip shape and material/texture, whether there is a step between the grip and the body, the weight and balance of the pen, and the distance from the tip of the nib to the grip area. Perhaps consider these factors in your search.

There's also the question of whether you prefer/plan/expect to post the cap on the pen when writing with it. I often find it distracting and uncomfortable that the (metal, or metal-trimmed) rim of the cap, which creates a noticeable 'step-down' from the barrel itself, resting against the webbing between my thumb and index finger while I write. That is why I prefer to write with the cap unposted, with very few exceptions; the Pilot Elite 95s is one of them. As much as I enjoy writing with the nib on my Sailor Professional Gear Imperial Black edition and like the feel of the matt resin pen body against my hand, it's just a little short to almost require the cap to be posted, yet the rim of the cap is distracting to me when I do so. On that account, a longer pen barrel works better for my small-to-medium-sized hands.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I find the posting situation to be very situational. I tend to personally not like posting unless it posts very deeply, regardless or backweighting or not

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

Agreed. I pull the caps off and put them aside while I write.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
