Pilot Disposable V Pen Ink

this could go in the pen section but is really just to say that the blue and the red ink from the pilot disposable v pen range does seem to be remarkably water resistant, expecially the blue ink.

 

not sure about light fastness, but the blue gives an impressive resilience when run under a water tap.

its not a bad blue either, and of course its cheap.

 

the black ink seems to turn pink when exposed to a south facing window, so not really light fast.

The blue ink in the Pilot Varsity is a particularly nice color. I was really bummed when I found out that Pilot didn't use the same formula for their regular bottled inks.

The problem I had with the Varsities (especially the first one) is that the pen died on me after 3 days of writing in my journal (that's 3 pages a day in what is probably an A5 sized journal). Just died. Yeah, I've seen the videos on how to take them apart and refill them, but still.

I know that they have their fans -- and I have given them out to people in the past for International Fountain Pen Day myself. But my experience was really disappointing. And the nice blue not being available otherwise? That was just an even further disappointment....

Yes, they put a small quantity of ink inside the disposable V fountain pen.

Really? I think the V pen holds a ton of ink. Maybe Ruth just got one that wasn't very full and was old.

 

My only wish was that they had an EF or F nib. I hate japanese mediums.

I bought a 7-set several years ago. I've refilled all of them at least once, and several of them more than once, with Iroshizuku ink samples. There's no "taking apart" required; I used the vacuum pump method described here:

Honeybadgers, if you turn the pen to that the nib is shiny-side down, it still writes cheerfully, but with a finer line.

I agree, but i don't like doing it.

 

I mostly want it to write finer so I can actually recommend it to people. The medium is far too wide for most average people's preferences.

I have both a Varsity Set (7-color) and a set of 5 V Pens with blue ink. The pens labeled Varsity are all Medium Point.

 

The V Pens are all Fine Point...?

 

So, they're definitely out there! (Mine came through the Big Ol' River; I just checked, and they're still available.) I hope this helps.
