Platinum Izumo Vs Nakaya

Yes. I bought my first Nakaya Piccolo at $250. I bought one Piccolo at current prices and lost it in Wrocław. I'd dropped it in Kraków and then in Zamość, thus the nickname Kurouac and references to "on the road." So, yeah... no plans to replace it.

Thanks, everyone. I went into this thinking I would get the Izumo because it's the more affordable of the two, but think I'll spring for the Nakaya. I appreciate all the feedback.

Never thought I'd spend this much money for a pen, but here we are.

So, did you spring for the Nakaya? If so, which one? If not, what are you thinking now?

I had forgotten that my first Nakaya (piccolo) was $250 as well. It was for the black urushi. It seemed to spike right after that (around 2008 or so).

This is an extremely evil thread.

Anyway, I found a good deal on the Izumo, and I got one just to compare the two. ( I was looking at another base design for Nakaya, so this had potential to save me a lot of money).

I think I sort of get what some of the other guys are talking about. Izumo has a much more even, perfectly done lacquer, while my Nakaya seems much more hand made. I would say the styles are very different, and at the base models, whether the price difference is worth it, that is very personal question. I like both of them!

But if I were to go for advanced models, I think the Nakayas start to become far more attractive ( just so much more expensive..... sighh)

Hi All, can someone show me how does the piccolo look like in real life?

Here is a picture that may help you compare a Nakaya Piccolo to other size pens.

Left to right are:

Pelikan 400, Nakaya Piccolo, Nakaya Portable, Nakaya Decapod, Nakaya Naka-ai, Nakaya Neo Standard, Pelikan 800

Thanks for that! I didn't realise Piccolo was that small!

Thank goodness for that... I was eyeing a really nice design.
