Ink Review: Monteverde California Teal

Before we begin, let me say this, Monteverde inks are really underrated.

 

So, the ink we'll be looking at today is called Monteverde California Teal. It is a really nice emerald green color and I really love the ink. Here's the review:

 

Color: As I said, it is a vibrant and saturated emerald green color with blue undertones. The color looks vibrant on most papers, but can be rather dull and one dimensional on cheaper quality paper

 

Dry TIme: The ink takes about 25 seconds to dry completely, so I would call it a moderately wet ink, but the dry time can be higher on Tomoe River Paper.

 

Waterproof-ness: The ink is not advertised as being waterproof and for good reason; almost all of the ink washes away when just a few drops of water come in contact with the ink, so I would not recommend it for archiving.

 

Shading: Not the best, but there is quite a lot of it, considering that this is a rather dark ink color.

 

Conclusion: The ink is great to write with, the color is pretty and sometimes, it shows a red sheen if you put down a lot of ink. The ink retails for around Rs. 600($9)

in India and for this price, you can't go wrong. The color of the ink is similar to the J. Herbin Emerald of Chivor. So, in closing, I'll say that this is a really nice ink and it's a very underrated ink.

Interesting. This reminds me a lot of some vintage Quink Green I found in an antiques store recently (and which has been currently gracing a vintage black Parker Laidtone Duovac). I haven't entirely made up my mind about the color -- but if I decide I like that particular shade of green, I see I now might have a replacement.

Looks good. A skip for me due to lack of at least some water resistance. Wonder why it was named teal when it's clearly cool emerald green. Maybe the modifier "California" is a reference to teals being greener

I love this ink. I bought it when it first came out without having seen the actual colour (with a few of their other inks at the same time) and was a bit surprised at first. It does have a very distinctive blue hue in a certain light.

Great review. I didn’t think I’d like this ink as I’m not a fan of teal inks. However, a friend gave me a bottle and I really like it.

This is a lot closer to the teal I remember from my childhood soccer t-shirts and is currently the favorite color of my 8 y.o. daughter. I loved this color when I was her age but now prefer much darker teals.
