Hp Premium 32 - Terrible

Reviving this thread to say that I stumbled upon it trying to figure out what was wrong with my sheets. I'm pretty sure one side feathers more than the other side for me. :|

With larger nibs/flex nibs some feathering is visible on both sides, but writing with my PO nib one side looks pretty good and the other looks not great at all. Ugh.

Learning how to post pictures on FPN moves you into the advanced stage of the FP hobby.

yes, it's not so straightforward...

I joined FPN fairly recently and this my first post.

A few days ago I ordered HP Premium 32 for the first time so I thought I would share my experience with my fairly limited variety of pens and inks. Attached image is scanned at 600 DPI.

My initial reaction is favorable. I don't see any feathering and there so far I have experienced absolutely no bleedthrough.

The image I tried to attach is smaller than the 1.95MB limit, but no luck. Will try again later.

are you sure you are using the upload tab at the top of the page? that's how you need to do it

I decided to dig out that pile of paper and try it again. Initially I thought "hey this isn't as bad as I thought" but it turns out it was. I decided just to write some random words and figured out the performance even differed in the same piece of paper. In the picture, you can see the writing on top was from the front half of the page, writing on bottom was from the bottom half of the page. It's from the same piece of paper!

that looks very odd, I'd be brought to think you have a defected product, it would seem as though the coating on the bottom part of the paper is lacking. Does it behave the same way on the other side of the paper?

(btw, I use AmazonBasics 80g and it does not feather at all, you need a lope to see any hint of feathering)

I'm having problems with the new paper too. The front side seems to work well but the back side feathers a lot. I was a happy user of the old stuff on the left below but not its replacement (on the right.) If you find the old package grab it!

Yup the one on the right is exactly what I have as well with one side being worse than the other.

The right side picture shows my paper, which is not good for fountain pen ink. 100 brightness.

What will you all do with the 100 brightness paper you own? I want to pick up some 98 brightness now, but I still have like 450 sheets of the 100 brightness. -_-

I don't think 98 brightness is available anymore, unless it's old stock. I could be wrong in that, that's the impression I got. I'm using up my paper for nicer print-outs with my monochrome laser printer.

Amazon still listed the 98 brightness but at $29.98 for 500 sheets!

Of course this doesn't mean that you'll get the right stuff. I bought some off eBay and was sent the new 100 brightness junk-- did get my money back though.

I'd use it in my printer...

(alternatively... paper planes?)

Okay you just foiled my plan haha that is exactly where I first went to go look for the 98 brightness.

I guess mine will be nice printer paper as well if I can find the old stock...

The quality did go down. I still have 5 reams left. Probably last me till next August. I mainly use this paper to solve math problems and make notes while I read. Then I transfer said solutions and notes to a notebook, mostly Campus, and archive them.

The new paper will still serve this function, but I am disappointed how hard it is to find cheap quality paper.

  • 2 months later...

I'm glad I researched this before purchasing this paper. When looking for domestic, inexpensive, quality paper for dip pens, HP Laserjet kept reappearing in my searches. However, I could not find this product and kept on being redirected to the HP 32 mentioned here. After surrendering to the fact that the Laserjet is no longer I assumed the HP was its replacement and was about to purchase some; looks like I'll have to keep searching.

Unfortunately in this day and age there's a significant degree of inconsistency in paper properties from batch to batch, so your best bet would be to buy what you want in a single quantity and test it yourself asap. Then if you like it, go back to the same place and buy more. This doesn't just go for the HP paper but for other "fountain pen-friendly" paper, as I've recently been realizing.
