Chicago Pen Show 2019

Well, it's about here again. Record number of table holders makes us the second largest show in the country! We'll start on Thursday. I believe the schedule might say 2PM not sure how that didn't get corrected but, if you've been there before you know I open the doors on the first day by 9AM. This actually started as I got to the room in 2016 to find Lee Chait already setting up quite early as the hotel had just left the room open. I just didn't see the point of kicking him out so we started. If you remember Thursdays past at the Westin they were quite affairs on the 12th floor sparsely populated the last few years. I was pleasantly surprised by the crowd that shows up on Thursday at the Chicago Marriott Northwest. As always we rewarded these Thursday show goers with a pizza party. I wasn't satisfied with half measures in this so we bring in top rate Lou Malnati's pizza for everyone's enjoyment. By 2017 we introduced the crown of the evening the whisk(e)y tasting. The (e) is that we don't discriminate between Scotch and Bourbon.

New to the show is Luxury Brands taking no less than four tables! While not new to the show is Franklin-Christoph but, we will have Scott Franklin himself in attendance and his staff assures me that they are putting him to work! Brian Gray with Edison Pens will be to the right entrance of the Ballroom as usual. You'll need to check out Artus Pens which is new to us and meet Maxim Stulov - I was very glad I could find a table to get him in. The Anderson's will be there commanding five tables in the usual location. Dan Smith has a great presence of three wall tables as you enter the Ballroom on the right. Vanness Pens has four tables North of Dan on the wall past the talents of Indy-Pen-Dance and Ron Zorn. In that light I cannot forget to mention Richard Binder will be in attendance as well! Also, newcomer Gena Salorino will be doing nib work and I understand that she is quite talented. Kanilea and Karas Pens will be there and I mention them together only for the wonderful alliteration of the K's - they both have very well crafted pens. When I think of crated pens I cannot forget Ryan Krusac and Shawn Newton as you first enter the Atrium. The one man pen show - Sarj Minhas will be there, not to be missed for fantastic vintage pens among others. Anyway, there will be a full list of the 115 vendors available at the registration table.

One last note, the State of Illinois will be participating to the extent of wanting to collect 10% on retail sales. I was going to be pithy but, I'll just say the State can use the money;).

Roger, wishing you and all of your team a remarkable success! This is the last year before retirement and I fully expect to be in attendance next year. Please try to keep Ms. Solon in line during the weekend, and HAVE FUN!!!

I'll be there as a first time vendor. Still trying to decide what to bring from the Parker hoard that I have acquired these past 10 years..

With one table I will be rotating stock every 30 minutes. I will be there on Friday 8 A.M. to get set up.

Heck, I'll just bring everything.

I will have to stop by. It's also my first year as a vendor, on Saturday.

Hats off to the Chicago show crew. They've taken what was an almost dead show, and turned it into a vibrant, "MUST go" show!

Packing the shop now, and plan to be there when the show opens on Friday. I'll be doing two seminars this weekend too...

It is my understanding that there are pharmaceuticals that can deal with this nightmare scenario.

This was our first time attending the Chicago show, and we are so glad we went. I was often overwhelmed by the sheer number of vendors and pens, but a deep breath and a laser focus on what was right in front of me at the moment helped. The vendors were all so kind and polite; we got a couple great deals before we left. I was thrilled to meet Matt Armstrong and Azizah Asgarali in person. It is a good location, too, clean, bright, and decently priced. A big thank you to all involved in making this past weekend a fun one!

For him or me?

I hope I can find some more P51's [ whole or parts ] to sell to FarmBoy this year. I need a dishwasher and a washing machine.

He did buy me a refrigerator in 2016 with the P51 nibs I sold him. :D

Ha! All in good fun, that guy is possibly the biggest reason I head up to the SF show every year. Don't tell him I said that. :D

It isn't only that he has a dog. He also has a wife. He has a son. He has in-laws. He has a house. He has a steady job. The total weirdness of California seems to take many forms.
