Is this choice personal taste, or is one physically more sound than the other?

It does boil down to individual tastes. Build-quality-wise I believe both are at par, but here are a couple of points to consider.

  • The Vac 700R has a bigger nib and a larger ink capacity.
  • The Diamond 580 has a lot of colour choices and an easier-to-operate piston filling system.

I personally own the 580, and an ECO, and would love to try the Vac simply for its bigger nib.

Someday... :)

Classic and Precision

Let me rephrase my question. I intended to ask "Will there be an opaque TWSBI Diamond or Vac 700?"

There are almost opaque colors of the Vac 700(blue, orange and smoke), but they were discontinued a while ago.

My guess-and this is strictly personal opinion..the demonstrators are sexiest when they are clear, or with a little transparent color, and thats what helps TWSBI sell these pens as if it were the end of the world.

Hi

I have both and I prefer the Vac700R, despite being a larger pen I find d it more comfortable to write with.

I have three of them, all inked for over a year and completely reliable.

But ultimately it comes down to personal choice and how it feels to you when you use it.

Yes it is.................................Highly unlikely..however..could be..but..not the end-o-world.

Both taste and physical

Vac700 Nib is #6, bigger than #5 of 580.

The more important fo rme is the filling system, vacuum suction in Vac 700 and traditional piston filler in 580.

It was the filling system whiuch made me opt for 580 when i was buying my first TWSBI

Enjoy your pens

Have a nice day

My Vac Mini has a plastic filler knob which screws onto a metal piece, and the sharp metal part chews into the fine plastic threads. It gives the filler a nasty rough feel, and likely damages the threads after a while. The Diamond Mini has a much smoother mechanism.

How do the Vac 700R and the 580 measure up?
