Padrino Classico

Modern (2005?)

Nib: Medium Stainless Steel Nib

Color: Transparent grass green laquer with Chrome accents

Cartridge/Converter Filled

Purchased from Paradise Pens, Tyson's Corner, VA for $29.99.

Summary:

A medium-sized, heavy, smooth writer. Excellent build quality. Recommended.

Review:

My pen collection contains a disproportionate number of blue and black pens. I needed something different to throw in the mix. While I've had my eye on a red S.T. Dupont Orpheo to shake things up, that is at the moment way out of my price range. However, I found this surprise hidden in the sale section at my local Paradise Pens.

The barrel is a lovely grass-green transparent laquer over a cut-metal base. The nib is a standard stainless steel nib in medium (the familiar "Iridium Point, Germany). The entire pen is cast from metal giving it a solid, quality feel. This is certainly not a light weight pen! The section and threads continue in the polished steel theme.

The cap is topped with a beautifully simple polished chrome circle, accented with black. The clip is also elegantly understated but, unfortunately, lacks any sprng mechanism. The cap screws on with slightly less than two full revolutions. The inner thread of the cap is made of a slightly rubberized plastic, making the process of capping and uncapping a sensual experience. This also allows firm posting without marring the barrel's finish.

As previously stated, the pen is not lightweight. As a result, like most of it's kind, it feels slightly top heavy with the cap (also metal) posted. With the cap in hand, however, it is quite a tame pen and the weight, while substantial, does not become overbearing.

Bottomline:

The overall design and build quality reminds me of nothing less than the aforementioned Orpheo. No joke. I was very sincerely impressed by this surprise pen.

:o Wow, what a gorgeous green pattern and colour :o

I looked up the Padrino line and saw that it is a Paradise Pen Co. exclusive.

Thanks for the nice photos and review of this lesser-known pen brand--enjoy!!

The Classico Padrino's are beautiful pens coming in four different colors - burgundy, blue, green, and black. The pattern under the lacquer finishes makes for a very attractive pen. The steel nibs are excellent -made in Germany. Besides the fountain pen their is a ball point (takes Parker Gel refills) and a beautiful roller ball pen similar to the ftn pen. Unfortunately this line is only available until they are all sold out.

I can say from personal experience that the Paradise Pen Company stands behind their products - I have had excellent response to a minor problem I was having. The Pen was replaced with a new one which is perfect in every way.

I wish there was a way to get a Blue FTN Pen and Blue Roller ball in this line. Lets hope the Paradise Pen Company will bring back the line. I believe if more pen people knew about them and saw them they would be brought back.

Great review! That's pen is extremely interesting looking. Talk about value - can't beat it for $30. Thanks for the comparison shots - really helps put things into perspective. Amazingly, even though the Classico is fractions of the cost of the others, it looks right at home in such fancy company. :)

It's getting late...Thought I'd just posted a response--but I'll re-do it...

Enjoyed this review! I'd never heard of this attractive pen--but really like the looks of it--maybe because it's green and the style is not "outlandish." The pattern lends a classy and classic look to it, too.

Thanks for the introduction to this pen!

:) Ann

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
