Fabriano Notebooks

I keep coming across Fabriano notebooks and wonder if they are really made from paper made in the great Italian paper making town of Fabriano or whether its just a brand name. Any one have any experience of them and know whether they are FP friendly?

I have a couple, an eco qua and a traccia, both get along nicely with fountain pens, and say made in Italy. Nice and smooth, not as smooth as Rhodia or Clairefontaine but they do dry more quickly.

Yes, they are made in Italy. Fabriano is still very active. Besides fountain pen paper they strongly hold the internal market for artist paper and still make real cotton cellulose paper for watercolour painting and also many other papers for technical drawing.

They still make some of their finest paper by hand.

As pseudo88 says, the fountain pen paper is not as smooth as Clairefontaine (which I believe provides the paper for the Rhodia pads) but dries faster and has just slightly more texture.

With some inks Clairefontaine is sometimes too wet (although it's a lovely paper and a favourite).

Hi

I have a good assortment of their notebooks and they are definitely fp friendly and good quality.

As you're in the UK it's worth checking out their boutique if you are in London, it's on Marylebone High St.

Check out this review of them: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://theindianmarmaladecompany.com/2018/04/08/a-visit-to-the-fabriano-boutique-london/&ved=2ahUKEwjO6fLx0uTgAhVuURUIHcL9Du8QFjAAegQIBRAB&usg=AOvVaw34XZ080w3i5dZeLKTvbKek

Hope this helps

Fabriano Paper is to my experience very fountain pen friendly. It has a smooth surface, shows no sign of bleeding or show through even with wet writers. It is quite hard.

That said, my experience stems from booklets and dotted A5 paper glued on the longside.

I have several Eco Qua notebooks and have found them to be of superb quality. They have handled every fountain pen ink I have tried with them without a hitch. Here in the U.S.they are also very economical.

Fabriano’s Ecoqua notebooks are a favorite and I find them mostly FP friendly. Good everyday note and listmaking paper.

My Ecoqua notebooks all say made in Italy.

No problem, when I went there it was lovely, hard to believe you are so close to Oxford St, on the other side of the road is a wonderful independent bookstore called Daunts.
