Kaco / Xiaomi Brio

Recommended Posts

I just stumbled upon this Xiaomi Brio fountain pen. It's apparently made by Kaco. Xiaomi is a chinese company, they sell all kind of stuff.

I'm not a fan of the shiny section, but the pens looks quite good. I really like the cap and clip.

Anyone heard about this or even have it?

Edit: typo

The link does not work anymore but for the pen itself, very plain and I can not see the appeal.

Seems to be a Schmidt nib, which might be an indicator that Kaco is involved in manufacturing it.

The link still works for me, don't know why.

With the photos from the link there is no doubt this is a Kaco Pen.

It is the Kaco-Schmidt nib (with Kaco branding), a small Kaco Logo is on the cap and there is a Kaco sticker on it.

For me, that is part of the appeal. Simple and clean.

The nib is the Kaco-branded "Germany" (Schmidt) nib with the Kaco symbol. It's also all over the box.

It couldn't possibly be a real Kaco, though, because it appears to have a functional clip. :)

There's several on both AliExpress or eBay if you search for Xiaomi Brio.

With that metal section, there's nothing to tempt me to buy it over a Kaco Edge. I'd even lean toward the Kaco Sky despite its plastic clip.

I can see why it appeals to you, but that flashy metal section grip just throw the simplistic & understated design IMO

Xiaomi must be saying to Kaco:

"Bro, your clip is sh*t fix that up first then we talk"

on Taobao page of this product which seems to be the only one there nothing states that this is collab between Kaco and Xiaomi except the fact that this pen only sells at shop which has Xiaomi logo on it's advert. this pen not even sells at Kaco store there. but it's definitely Kaco pen that just have weird origin.

If someone needs a pen - why not - it is most probably not a bad pen.

But, no more white or black pens for me. They are too boring to want to use them more than once.

And the fingerprint trap metal section - no thanks.

I didn't order the Kaco Brio back then, but a few weeks ago I stumbled upon it again and couldn't resist ( and I didn't have a pure white pen yet)

It's well made and feels good in the hand, the nib (EF) is good (just like in every other Kaco Pen with Schmidt nibs I have). The section is shiny but not as slippy as the Lamy Studio. Pulling the cap needs some force (a bit too much in my opinion), maybe it will losen after some time.  No hard starts or dried out nib after a week without using it.

Overall I am happy with this pen, I think I will use it in the office (assuming I will go to the office again...), especially considering the price. I paid about 13 € and the pen came with a Schmidt K5 converter, two cartridges and a sturdy plastic box.

@Holon, A few months ago, I bought a Schmidt screw-in unit and since it doesn't fit any of my pens, I started looking for a model that uses Schmidt. Finally, I decided on the Kaco Brio and just ordered it a few hours ago. I would like to know if it worked well for you and if the Schmidt unit removes easily. Did the cap loosen with use? Best regards.
