Is the barrel partially translucent?  Because it looks that way in this photo.

I still suspect I may have to see one in person before I do the "OMG -- want!  Must HAAAAVE...."  But seeing a non-stock advertising photo is pushing me more in that direction.  My poor wallet.... :wallbash:

I was done purchasing Pelikans, but this picture sold me. Just purchased one! That is a very nice grind. Who does the grinds for Fritz?

~ @TitoThePencilPimp: I've never asked about particulars of Fritz Schimpf Italic Grind nibs.

Perhaps an inquiry to Fritz Schimpf might provide that answer.

The IB nib is nothing less than stellar on paper.

The combination of smooth with crisp is highly satisfying.

The pen is this Summer's highlight.

~ @inkstainedruth: Holding the pen in my fingertips under a desk lamp, it's apparent that it is indeed semi-translucent.

Seldom has any fountain pen more fully exceeded my expectations than this one.

The color, nib, and overall utility of the M200 Pastel-Blue are what I'd hoped for.

It's my Summer, 2023 pen.

After years of seeing your posts of new pens and inks, I am always highly appreciative of your consistent enthusiasm and presenting your writing instruments so well!  Your posts always bring a smile to my face.  Thank you for sharing!

Owned this model for several years, but let it go last year in a multi-pen trade.  Recently, a friend spotted the one below at a pen show & put me in touch with the seller.  It's the M800 Renaissance Brown from 2017,  but its nib was a surprise: OB old-style with PF marking from 1990-2000.   Like all M800 & M805 fountain pens,  it's very comfortable & its nib is smooth & wet. Both are a pleasure to use. Thanks for looking.

Lucky day… bought this near mint Pelikan 500NN Tortoise :)

So… yeah, local online auction site, a person was selling two fountain pens and a nice leather pen case, all from the 1950s for what basically amounts to a song.

The ad didn’t mention Pelikan, but despite the far from optimal pictures I spotted something I liked very much indeed and thought it worth a gamble.

Long story short, I sent her a message, agreed to buy the lot, and then met the seller today. We chatted a bit about rescues and pens, money switched hands for merchandise and we both walked away happy.

I was a bit surprised to hear that they had been her grandfathers, and that she had written with both pens as a kid (waaaaay back, think of the 60s)… and there she was, letting them go even with that history… and yes, she knew they were worth a bit more. Well, at least I tried my best to convey to her that they were going to a loving home.

Anyway, the other pen has some issues despite being in sparkling shape externally, but the Pelikan takes the cake. It looks practically unused even though I know it has been used…most likely the previous owner babied it.

Super smooth and surprisingly thin M-nib with a nice bit of flex, crystal clear barrel, lovely binde, no brassing, no dings or scuffs, like, nothing.

I am just amazed because I’ve previously bought a NOS vintage Pelikan 400 Tortoise from the inventory of a pen shop that went defunct in the 1960s (the pen was still in original packaging with a sticker), and this was at least as shiny and sparkling as that one.

Oh well, will be looking forward to taking that one out on special occasions. TBH, I am not a huge fan of gold or bling, but something tasteful like that… yeah, I think I can swing that. ;)

You got the Cognac?  It’s such a pretty pen. I hope you enjoy yours.  Mine is nearby, showing off.

That's a lovely pen!  I sort of agree with you about the gold being a bit "bling-y", but with that barrel color it works.

Thanks! It pays to be curious and also, somewhat relentless in one's search for finer things like this. :D

Those nib wdth comparisons are very useful, thank you.

Lovely! 😍 That is among my favourite pen & nib combinations (400 Tortoise and BB), especially with that earlier/period correct ”script” nib (it just feels so nice on paper) :)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
