Wobbly Pen Clip

A-Steroid-Induced-Bear

Recommended Posts

As the topic would suggest, the clip on one of my pens is a bit loose. The pen in question is a Jinhao 159, and it serves as my daily carry. Seeing as it's a cheap pen, I see no reason to spend money to have such a trivial issue fixed. However, it is pretty annoying. It's gotten to the point where I can feel the clip wiggle around if the pen is posted. Are there any quick fixes?

Look closely at the top of the pen. There should be a section that tapers to a cigar point above the clip. If there is (in order going up):

A washer (about 1.x mm thick)

Clip washer (very thin, often hidden)

That black piece holding it all together

You're good. Take the top black finial and give it a hard crank (lefty loosey). The assembly should come off. If you just want to tighten it, screw the finial back on, and go tighter.

The glue used in these pens are weak.

Holy cow, I had no clue! I thought that it was mechanically attached in such a way that prevented tinkering. Thank you!

Most Chinese pens (with a few notable exceptions) can be tinkered with. Chinese manufacturers don't have the reason to bother to make pens tinker-proof, plus, if you break one, it's $2 in the toilet. If it doesn't come off with a firm grip, don't try it.
