Dip Pen Paper For A Project

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a good loose leaf paper for a project. I'm planning on making a Christmas gift for my wife in which I draw out sheet music for a lyric of a song, and write out the lyrics with a dip pen. I'm planning on framing the final draft. I'm wondering what a good paper choice would be? It needs to stand up to dip pen and possibly a micron or other fine liner used for the sheet music.

1) do they sell blank score sheets? You may want to explore that.

2) look for 120g paper , off-white, say ivory in colour.

Photocopy music score lines onto this paper , and write out the notes and lyrics.

You may want to use larger sheets of paper for impact , if you are framing them up.

You can even use a dark pencil, for everything, just so it is immediately noticeable that it’s an original score ?

Pencil lines have a lot of character too.

You can adorn the completed scoresheet with memorabilia or anything that’s worthy to be on that framed , eg something that’s personal to you both?

Have fun experimenting ...

might be of interest, if you don't mind the logo at the bottom of the page. Or http://www.pianopianoforte.com/piano_music/piano_music_english/score.html (or just Google for "music score template"). Or for more customization https://www.finalemusic.com/products/notepad/ (nothing says you have to put notes on the staff to print it <G>)

Those would allow for selecting a custom paper and printing the staff.

Otherwise I'd recommend obtaining a T-square, drawing board, and Ames Lettering Guide to make each staff https://www.amazon.com/Alvin-AL666-Lettering-Guide-Template/dp/B001DNAHRO (pick a suitable even-spaced set of holes, do five left-right passes on the T-square, then move the paper/square for the next staff position, repeat). Oh, and a Pigma Micron (nylon tip disposable technical pen, supposed to be waterproof pigment ink) in a preferred size.
