Why Does My Pilot Metro Nib Automatically Misalign Each Time I Use It?

So, after learning to write with a lighter hand, I have noticed that the nib misaligns; Specifically the left time always bends down, and makes a scratching noise when I pull it back up. Is there something I can do to make sure this doesn't happen, or do I just learn to live with misaligned tines?

Maybe try to realign the nib by bending the left tine up to match the right one. Also, it is easy to pull and replace a Pilot nib, so you can acquire a Plumix for a few dollars and change out your nibs. As a last resort, see if your pen shop can swap out the nib or pen.

Best of luck,

Yours,
Randal

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

Nib getting misaligned with a light hand might mean the nib is moving in the section as you write. Push the nib and feed in tightly into the section.

It's not misaligning, you are misaligning it. You might want to try a style of pen which does well when pressed against paper, when my dad writes with a ballpoint pen you can see what he wrote on the paper underneath since he's carving into the paper... Or try a chisel!

Check the feed, if it's not centered and and is off to one side a little it may be pushing one of the tines up or down. Remember that it's pretty easy to remove the nib and feed and insert it back if you want to recenter it.

Are you holding the pen behind the big index knuckle like a fountain pen or before it like a ball point? Makes a difference between the nib gliding over the paper on a small puddle of ink or digging little grand canyons in the paper, when held too high.

Then don't try to 'hold' it to an angle behind the index finger, if it wants to 'rest' at 45 degrees let it, if it wasn't to rest at 40 degrees let it. Trying to hold it to an angle = Death Grip.

Sounds like #1 you are canting the pen/rotating it. Align the clip so it is in the middle of the nib, aimed at the slit. That will help you stop rotating/canting the nib.

#2, sounds like you are using much too much pressure. As Hari said, try pushing the nib and feed deeper into the pen.

Hold the fountain pen lightly, like holding a baby featherless bird.

 Don't make baby bird paste.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
