Suggestions For A Navy / Dark Blue Ink?

What about Cultpens Deep Dark Blue (made by Diamine)?

Seeking a Parker Duofold Centennial cap top medallion/cover/decal.
My Mosaic Black Centennial MK2 lost it (used to have silver color decal).

Preferably MK2. MK3 or MK1 is also OK as long as it fits.
Preferably EU.

I also am looking for a dark blue ink.

I am interesting in your impressions of your new inks.

Thanks for starting this thread.

A sample of Diamine Midnight arrived today. It's a very wet ink and pretty close in colour to the drawing in my original post, although perhaps a little more blue-black than navy.

Am still waiting on samples of Sargasso Sea and Cult Pens Deep Dark Blue.

Diamine Regency Blue is also a very nice blue, but has more red/purple in it than what I'm looking for.

From the Diamine range I very much like Oxford Blue for general writing (even though it's a lighter blue than the ink in the drawing).

If, after trying them samples, you find

Diamine Midnight too grey,

Sargasso Sea too bright,

Deep Dark Blue too dark,

Regency Blue too purple,

Oxford Blue too green,

I suggest: Private Reserve "Electric DC Blue"

...and you find it too red and also soon alsmost impossible to buy since no longer made :)

Very true. But they were inconsistent even before, so I am not sure how much claims shall be fulfilled.

My bet would to try first all suitable Diamine inks considering how consistent and well behaved they are and only then eventually experiment with PR. Just my 2c

  • 2 months later...

I just ordered a bottle of Electric Blue from the "new" Private Reserve. I will report the results.

I, too, have been looking for a real (translation: dark) navy blue. Most of the inks listed herein were non-starters... too light. I've tried all of the Diamines and Visconti, as well. Most wound up down the drain of my kitchen sink.

Find a good color-balanced picture of a Navy pea-coat or dress officer's uniform. That's the blue I'm looking for. I could live with a slight shift towards the red end of the spectrum, but greens are a deal-breaker.

Any updates from OP on what worked?

So far I've tried Diamine Oxford, Midnight, Sargasso, Regency, Denim, Cult Pens Deep Dark Blue, and Sailor Shigure. None yet are quite what I'm looking for (in terms of matching the drawing in my original post), but if you're looking for a navy blue without green or purple overtones you may want to give Cult Pens Deep Dark Blue a try.
