Suggestions For A Navy / Dark Blue Ink?

pennylink

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a saturated navy/dark blue ink that would be a good match to the drawing below. I've tried Diamine Regency Blue and Diamine Oxford Blue, both of which are in the ballpark but not quite close enough (Regency was the closest of the two).

The color reminds me of what a copy might look like when using carbon paper.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Stipula Dark Blue might be close to what you want.

Perhaps Winter by Krishna.

I haven't used it in a while but that reminds me of Pelikan Königsblau.

I cannot get over how much I like Noodler's Navy. If you are using it on Tomoe River paper, it can smear a little bit well after the ink has more or less dried. But on every other paper, I think it is perfect. (even on TR paper, it is probably my favorite ink.) It is an extremely saturated, dark navy with just a touch of green in it.

Bilberry, Sargasso or Imperial Purple from Diamine.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

From the reviews I can see online, Sargasso looks very close :)

De Atramentis Sherlock Holmes which is also called night blue. Not sure if it is the match you are looking for, but screens differ.....

I haven't actually tried this ink myself but it's piqued my interest.

On my monitor, your sample appears to have a greyish blue tone, so I would favor the highly recommended Midnight over the truer blue Sargasso. But I've learned that what appears on monitor and what actually appears on paper from my nib can be two very different things.

I make sure I always have DeA Sherlock Holmes available for my dark blue. That & MB JFK are my favorite blues.

You are right about the grey element. I've ordered a sample of Midnight to try (easily available in the UK).
