Scribo Feel

I held a gorgeous green one at the London show. The material was so shimmery and had such depth that I commented it looked like a light sabre. It felt alive. The pen wrote beautifully too.

Drat, wish I'd hung around at the London show to see these on John's stand, but I had to get out of temptation's way. This looks like a lovely pen with a great nib. I hope they'll be available at the show in March. Maybe some other colours by then? That would make it truly desirable for me.

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

OK, finally got round to doing my write up and adding pictures. It ended up some what wordy so I've converted my travel blog (on Wordpress) to being a general blog with categories.

An excellent, comprehensive and insightful review!

Especially well done was the very balanced portion which succinctly and successfully addressed the SCRIBO / Omas issues we have been discussing here.

Bravo!

I find the pen visually appealing, but agree about the elephant in the room being price. 650 Euros today is USD $750. One can find original 1990's Omas resin Paragons (I believe with in-house nibs) for much less, and even many of the celluloid Paragons can be found in that price or even for less.

I'll look forward to seeing them in person, and I wish the new company well, but doubt one will end up in my personal pen case. Not because the pen is not Omas, but strictly because I feel there are better choices in that price range.

I left this "unsaid" in my comments just because I wanted to compliment dapprman for a nice write-up. However, I must say, I agree 100% And, I too believe this conclusion is a result of the articulate rationale opined by whichwatch and not because I am the member of the (?) old "brigade" which dapprman referenced in an earlier post.

I wish you could still get an old Paragon at the prices you mention - I have seen some 'used' ones in the USA for $500, but over here they're going for £800+ and the arcos £1200+ - I know it's a big bubble and it will burst, but that may still take time.

There was a Paragon in Arco Verde listed and sold on a different pen site just the other day for USD $700 - unfortunately gone before I saw it.

There is currently a celluloid Omas (Saffron) listed on another pen site that has been listed for a few days - currently asking $950.

And I just saw two more older resin Paragons posted for $500 and $425. Theyre out there guys. You just have to look a bit!

It appears perhaps prices are currently lower on this side of the pond.

Thanks to dapprman and Glenn for excellent write-ups!

As for the elephant, yes. But, a mid-range pen from another small European manufacturer that we love on this site is currently €624 with a gold nib before delivery, perhaps the price is not too frightening?

The currently posted retail price is the same as direct from Scribo. My guess would be that we'll see a 15% dip over time. But if we order now direct from Scribe, we will be directly supporting a start up, which I think is an excellent thing to do!

The video I mentioned is now on line - it is Luca and myself talking about the Feel, with the video taken (and some back ground questions and comments) by Penultimate Dave (née Visconti Dave). You'll note I do bring up the question of cost towards the end.

Wow - these look better each time I see them

Thanks dapprman for your report and images, and to frantic for linking to the Glenn Marcus write-up :)

Good interview.

Especially interesting to hear Luca indicate (@ ~ 9:00 into the video) that he reads what we post here on the Forum. That is great to know as so much of what we say on these threads is stuff the decision makers at the respective pen companies should hear!!

Dapprman, please address one thing for us.... In his comments, Luca thanks you for the kind comments you make in your FPN posts about SCRIBO. There is then a brief exchange between the two of you which, to my ears, begins with your thanking him for the "freebie." The rest is a bit obscured by both of your laughters.

To the point, is there any quid pro quo in your relationship with the Company and/or Luca? If there is any conflict of interest, you should disclose it. If there is not, we should know that too. Thanks, in advance, for your transparency.

At the time I was jokingly putting the wrap in my inner jacket pocket before handing the pen back. As to any quid pro quo - nope, would be nice in time to be leant one to review (I need to keep on writing reviews, do have some latest gen pens in my collection to go through), but I'm not holding out.

Just re-read the last line - there's nothing that could create a conflict of interest between myself and SCRIBO or Luca (nor John Hall at Write Here), and if in time I am leant pens I will declare it.

Very good. I trust you took no offense from the question. It certainly was not intended that way. You are a valued opinion leader in the FP community.

Generally speaking (and certainly not to imply this pertains to you) there are far too many shills on this Board so it is always good for those who in the midst of trying to make an expensive decision about a pen purchase to know if there is any conflict of interest on the part of someone who makes a positive (or a negative) post.

It's fine. British humour is always lost somewhere over the Atlantic...

For those of us this side of the pond, the jesting was entirely clear.

Too many pens; too little writing.

Surely so. And one thing everyone who frequents FPN always needs to remember is that FPN is a terrific resource for pen collectors from around the world.

Cultures, customs and senses of humor can vary greatly from location to location & country to country. Before I made the post I tried to determine if I was risking the creation of an offense by asking the OP that we be assured there was not quid pro quo or conflict of interest (COI). As most everyone here knows, this is a "hot" topic in the USA these days! However, I did not want to presume that it was an expected custom elsewhere and, especially in the UK, given that the OP was in the UK. I was assured by a colleague from the UK that a request for the disclosure of a COI would not be looked upon as offensive, so I proceeded with my request which the OP responded to promptly and well.

If I could have / should have approached this differently I would appreciate some advice as to how I might do so.

Thanks to Seney724 and dapprman for the civilized and appreciative exchange. Being a bit British I got the tone, but it really is a time when folks who should know better are blurring the lines, and clarification never hurts!

So, who has bought one of these pens then? I have actually ordered one for myself and one for my lovely partner. I feel quite faint . . . . definitely no freebies here . . . .

Cheers,

Ralf

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
