Update on the sketching and washing performance. Used Sou-boku with a fude nib on some light watercolor paper (Maruman New Soho) for this sketch. I waited a few hours between sketching and washing, and I didn't notice any smudging/lifting of the ink at all. Really pleased with its performance; it's quite well-suited for this kind of use if you want to want to use a blue-black for this kind of work.

 

@Tas By the way, would you like a sample of Sou-boku and/or Aonibi? Just let me know; I'd be happy to send some your way.

Thank you so very much for the wonderfully thorough – and artistically masterful – review!

 

My three bottles of Sailor souboku arrived last night, along with an order that has been held up for some six weeks, narrowly not missing my birthday. I just filled a Pilot Metropolitan with it, and absolutely adore the colour! Sailor seiboku (which I also got a second bottle of in this shipment) can now take a backseat.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

For those interested in non-writing applications... One and a half CON-50 fills worth of Souboku later, a sketch using the Falcon's unique nib. On watercolor paper it gets a bit more range and shows the blue more heavily than on my usual writing papers. Also, as noted before, even wet puddles of Souboku refuse to spread, even on already-wet paper. The ink continues to impress.

If I had to pick one ink at this exact moment... yeah, it'd probably be this one. I'm far too indecisive to say that with much confidence, though :) It certainly does everything I ask of it, though.

 

Another one where I did the sketch work with Souboku (though in hindsight I probably should've used a different color...). Plein air sketch from a nearby nature park.

I hate you guys... I shouldnt be stocking up on inks as I have a butt load of them

You'll hate us even more when you realise how little you use the others now Sou Boku is in the house ! :wub:

Seriously, I can't get enough of this magical ink. SO much character. From box to page it's pure joy for me and I hope it is for you :)
