Have you ever tried to remove a nib unit and the nib and feed pulled out but the nib collar is firmly stuck in the pen? How do you remove this collar?

They're supposed to unscrew, but some pen manufacturers glue them in.

It depends on the pen brand. Sometimes the collar is particularly difficult or even too delicate to remove and pulling out the nib and feed is the only way to remove them.

Thanks for your quick replies. In the case of this pen, a Danitrio, it's a screw in because I saw the pen seller change the nib and screw the entire unit in. Not glued in. But when I tried to remove the nib, only the nib and feed came out.

Is there a similar trick like the rubber band on a pencil eraser trick that can remove a pen caps inner cap that I can use on this collar?

First CLEAN the old ink out. Dried ink could be cementing the collar to the section. This is a common situation with Esterbrook nibs.

Then put the nib and feed back in and see if you can unscrew the nib assembly.

Assuming you get the nib and feed back in exactly as it was before they came out, then really clean the section as well as you can. Then try warming the outer part very carefully before you attempt to unscrew the nib unit. If you can warm the outer section just a little, the collar might then screw out.

yes. Sometimes the threads are too tight and have seized, sometimes old ink acts like an adhesive.

removing the collar or not depends on the problem. If its stuck and you reinsert the nib and retry you tend to risk deforming the nib, feed and slots in collar. Avoid it. If the collar is already damaged and you need to install a new one, a triangular tapered file inserted into collar provides excellent traction. HTH

Excellent suggestion, I always use a tapered triangle scraper to remove stuck threaded nib housings.

Thorough soaking the section - when possible in a US cleaner - remains however the first step.
