Bring Horrible Hand-Writing All The Way From Bombay, India

I’m part of many forums, but I rarely say Hi.

Hi everyone, I'm from Bombay, India. I am nearly 36 and I got married in January this year.

As a student, I had bad hand-writing and I took to technology and computers quite early in the day, in 1992. And there went any scope of handwriting improvement, reading books and focus on traditional academics.

Over the last 15 years, I've been focused on self-learning, getting better, understanding everything, questioning things, myself, creating awareness, and also going back to the basics.

Over the past year or so, I started taking notes on paper. I've been using a Fabriano notebook and a Luxor Pilot V5 and V7 cartridge-based, ball-point pen. It’s soothing and I like the focus it brings.

Fountain pens caught my attention a few weeks back. I love the communities and the interest around them, so I considered buying a Pilot Metropolitan, then decided I needed to use something a little simpler and cheaper, before I justify the price of that pen.

I couldn't find the Jinhao X750, X450 or the 159 at the local store, but I did find a Hero 336 and a Flair Inky (meant for school students). I've using the Hero 336 for a week with cheap Camlin ink (total investment of around $1. It is scratchy, inconsistent, sometimes thin and dark, at times purplish, sometimes blue and smoother.

The Flair is much smoother but much thicker so I don’t use it. I should move to a Jinhao for a while, before I consider the Pilot or a Lamy Safari.

Nearly all that enthusiasm has been through FPN and I will be here, reading through the boards, trying to work on my hand-writing. I love it when people take up hobbies and interests, gather in a community on the web, without being obnoxious. This is a wonderful community.

Welcome to FPN from North Carolina, USA! I've not tried a Hero 336 but from what you're describing, a Lamy/Pilot or even a Jinhao will be a significant improvement.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everybody.

 

After the Hero 366 (which seems to be getting smoother), I have a Jinhao 992 demonstrator awaiting me when I get home. I can't wait.

 

There is a Jinhao X450 and X750 expected from China sometime in next 2 weeks. I picked up a bottle of Parker Quint Royal Blue over the weekend too. Considering a bottle of Waterman for these pens, but I can't find Inspired Blue easily (or affordably) around here.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
