Brands Fountain Desk Pens

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm looking for a desk pen but don't find many brands that makes them new.

I know the Platinum Carbon desk pen (I have one and I really like it). Sailor has one and of course the Nakaya Desk Pens. :)

But are there other brands for desk pens. Or is it better to go vintage?

kind regards

Geert

Your best option for selection is vintage.

Esterbrook and Parker sets are pretty easy to find. I have a nice one made in 1968 that has a Parker 45. It was some sort of academic award and has a little brass plaque on it with the year. Don't use it as often as I ought, but I'm not in the market to sell it either. Parker made a variety of bases, mine is made of oak and has a hinged lid with compartments.

Go vintage ... you will not be sorry! I currently have a Sheaffer touchdown with Triumph nib desk pen and I love it. Sits on desk at work. Handy to use, looks cool on the desk and is great for conversation starters when people see me using it. Prices for vintage desk pens seem to be good bargains as well.

How much are you willing to spend?

I know Marlen makes a desk set

Delta made one too, they show up on ebay from time to time

Otherwise, there is the Monteverde Luna Desk Set

I too would suggest Vintage, there is such a great variety available and desk pens are fairly cheap.

There are occasionally very interesting and decorative vintage Parker, Sheaffer, Esterbrook and other makes of desk bases and pens, sometimes including desk pencils. I found a Sheaffer school cartridge pen, desk pen version, with matching desk base in beige. I would watch ebay until I found just the right interesting desk set.

Thanks everyone for the reactions. I keep my eyes open for a bargain...

If I can resist the Nakaya Desk Pens :)

OMAS also did a desk pen.

Now if you're looking for the pen style, and are not bothered about the stand then there's always the Franklin Christoph 65 and 66 Stablis.

Omas did several desk pens.

The most common is the Extra 556 which has a 14k nib and a piston filling mechanism.

I have a Retro 51 set and a Levenger True Writer Set.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

To add another option to the mix, you could consider the Pelikan Level 5 (see photo from an old sale on FPN - no affiliation).

It looks rather unlike a standard Pelikan and has an interesting filling system. I have one of these pens on my desk and find it an extremely reliable writer. the pen stands upright in its holder and mine will start up straight away even if I haven't used it for a month or more.
