Here's my picture from that other thread (Lamy Al-Star, but same difference):

All my Safaris, Lx and Al-Stars are smooth like this.

I've had a look at my collection, and it seems that my newer glossy-finish Safaris (white and black) have struts inside the grip. These pens both came from authorised Lamy retailers, and one even came with a holographic warranty registration card; I don't know how they could be fake.

Here are pics from most of the Safaris in my collection, annotated by provenance.

Lamy Vista, purchased from a random seller at the San Francisco Pen Show, circa 2000.

Yellow Safari, purchased from a brick-and-mortar authorized Lamy dealer, circa 1999.

Gold Lamy LX, purchased directly from the LamyUSA liquidation sale.

Petrol Safari, purchased online from a well-known, authorized Lamy dealer.

Blue Safari, purchased from an Amazon online seller.

Green Safari, purchased directly from the LamyUSA liquidation sale.

It's quite possible my blue Safari is a counterfeit. But the green Safari is certainly genuine, and it has the radial spokes.

That would mean that they have changed the design, but not for their newest pens. I have the Special Editions of 2016, 2017 and 2018. And a relative new charcoal. No spokes.

Maybe there are "special" ones for the U.S.

It could also mean they have changed the design for the glossy Safaris, but not the matte Safaris or the rest of the line (Al-Star, Lx)

I think I will take a look next time I see a display stand. May take some weeks though.

Edit: I also asked on a German board for more samples.

I got an answer. An owner reports of his 18 pens the "Sky Blue (2006), Green Cross (2013), Coral (2014) and Pink Dot (2009)" show these struts. Bought from local stationary shops in Germany.

Obviously Lamy did or does experiment with this design. It's not a characteristic for a fake. I was wrong. All-clear.

But the sky will always come to me.™

Mine appears to be smooth....the pen was bought on 1998, but I had to replace the section sometime between 2008 and 2012. I bought it directly from LamyUSA.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
