Desert Island Archival Ink

Lots of great info but I want to respond to this bit...

I have IG Mandarin. I like it sometimes for journaling, but it goes down looking almost like lemon juice so it helps to have good task lighting when you're writing with it. It dries to more of that orange skin color. Neat, but wholly inappropriate for business use, I think.

I've had a sample of the IG Turquoise and I think it's got to be the most beautiful blue-black. It goes down that light turquoise color, and wetter areas dry to a dark blue-black.

The KWZ IG Green Gold does scratch one particular itch: blue inks look odd to me in a green-trimmed TWSBI demonstrator.

I have IG Mandarin too, as well as IG Gold, and IG Aztec Gold, all the lighter brown IG's except for Orange, and yeah, because they are lighter colored they may not be as evident on the paper as the other KWZ IG inks unless you use a very wet pen. Over a few weeks they will turn to a medium grey, if very wet possibly a light black. I have used both Mandarin and IG Gold to sign documents at my work with no problem, but understand different businesses have different expectations. Though my documents must last five years, I can sign them in Diamine Orange and not hear a peep about it!!

IG Green Gold in a wet pen will turn to a black with a touch of green on the edges overtime, obviously different than most 'business" inks, but still part of the club....worth a sample at least!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Could you post some photos of well-aged darkened KWZ IG inks you've described, please?

I will see what I can gather, and probably be able to post by tomorrow.....

Okay, I can't believe that Ruth didn't mention it. She and I have this little comment thing going on....

Noodler's KTC.

The ink will work in a demonstrator and not stain (but NT doesn't want to hear about it). It has outlasted sun, sand and water at our plant nursery here in the desert. If you can only have one, this one will last.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Actually I kinda did, responding to MG66. But I don't necessarily recommend it because it's not best behaved.

OTOH, I'm convinced it will outlast Armageddon and the Zombie Apocalypse, and will hang in mid-air after you set the paper it's on on fire.... And I have yet to find an ink that resembles the color enough.

So I had a little bit of Noodler's KTC left in a Goulet sample vial. There was enough to draw up into my Lamy 2000 and try it out again.

Strong no-go. It bleeds through Leuchtturm1917 notebook paper pretty badly. I like the color, though. It reminds me of a pair of blue jeans.

Ironically, I hadn't used the Lamy 2000 in a long, long time. And it's not a demonstrator. So the rules can change a little bit.

Right now the Lamy 2000 and some Noodler's Black are making me feel like maybe everything I need is right here.

Magnus, add a tiny bit of water and see if that helps.

That's my experience also with KTC on Leuchtturm. Which is why I don't buy Leuchtturm any more. :)

If it bleeds through Leuchtturm, it will bleed through the random copy paper the OP wishes to use as well....

Diluting may help, but if you are liking Noodler's Black with the Lamy 2000, why go looking for a solution to a problem already answered.....

Especially if we are comparing these inks to your average ballpoint, rollerball, or gel pen.....

Also, archival is not the same as apocalypse proof......there are plenty of inks that will last the needs of a legal document.....

That's true. I used Luxury Blue for years on all my legal contracts.

We use KTC at the nursery, which is as close to a desert island as I'm getting in Southern Nevada.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
