How Much Do Gold Nibs Weigh On Average?

TestTube

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if - for some reason - I drop one of my gold nib pens and shatter the nib (*CRY*), how much the nib itself weighs so I can calculate its value in gold.

(I know I can just replace the nib so, question is more out of curiosity)

Bad news. If the nib shatters it's definitely not gold.

Price of gold in the nib would depend upon the gold content,12kt, 14kt, 18kt. Possibly but probably not 22kt. At a wild guess,14kt, maybe $40. Price of gold fluctuates daily.

Generally speaking vintage gold nib will give you a softer ride than contemporary. As Bo Bo has said many times "a nail is a nail." Gold, steel = same. As of now I have no vintage pens. Steel/Titanium is fine by me.

Best thing is, don't drop your pen.

Add lightness and simplicate.

melt down price.....after the discount of cost of melt down.....a 2-pack of beer? Three pack?

Not very much.

Sometimes if you are lucky, you can buy a vintage gold nibbed pen for less than a new gold nib.

Gold nibs are not very expensive in Vintage pens.....from my experience.

Sometimes E10 more than a vintage steel nibbed pen.
