Baoer Fountain pen

I entered the Baoer market by recently purchasing the 517 and I have been a fan. Except that the pen is a little small for me. But I like the weight (35g), and I don't like pens to get much heavier than that. So I am a little torn about how to proceed with this brand: the bigger pens will fit my hand better (and they look nice), but they get pretty darn heavy.....

TSherbs, you might want to look at the Baoer Skywalker... the section is longer and the barrel diameter is a teeny bit wider. The cap screws on to post, as well, that may influence the balance for your larger hands. I only owned one, and made a gift out of it, but it had a very smooth "M" nib.

Should be able to find one for around $8 bucks, US.

My favorite Baoer is the black 388, currently sipping Monteverde Turquoise and liking it.

Take Care,

J.R.

I am interested in the nibs for the Boer 388 and other Boer pens.

They say they are medium, but I am coming to understand this sort of thing as meaning "broader than our fine nib but narrower than our broad tip" for any given maker, rather than some absolute standard. Does anyone know if this nib is finer than, say, a Scheaffer school pen nib? A Varsity M nib? A Bic Disposible M nib?

I have a Baoer 801 in dark frosted blue which I'm extremely happy with,
I'm planning to get another 801 in brilliant red later, to use as my backup grading pen.

How do you like the diameter and feel of the 801?

I like slim-line pens but I have a love/hate relationship with some of them.

I do like how the 801 looks.

I'm very happy with my Baoer #801. Very fine writer, but smooth and not scratchy. I have the blue brushed metal one, and keep either Waterman Blue or (my preference) PR American Blue in it. It takes long Waterman cartridges happily.

FYI; can I at this point bring to the attention of all interested parties the

fact that Jinhao and Baoer pens are made by the same manufacturer namely the

Shanghai Quiangu stationery company and are pens which I am very familiar with, I am constantly replying to those lucky people like me who have a collection of them.I always have some 35 or more of these pens in my collection and I am in the

habit of giving them away to tradesmen who do a job at my place or friends who

would like to revisit their schooldays by writing with a Fountain pen again.Mr

Mahatma Ghandi admitted to being an atrocious writer and introduced a program of

students in India writing with fountain pens in an effort to rekindle this

fabulous art of cursive in schools. For the very affordable prices one pays for any of these pens it gives me great pleasure to present one to anyone who fancies

revisiting their childhood.I always respond to anyone who writes on these pages

who says that their pen has stopped writing and they cant get it going again, the

explanation is that the pens are made of brass and during machining process they

pick up oil which is used during that process. A simple but effective way to eliminate this is to flush out the supplied convertor with a small drop of dish washing

liquid mixed with a tiny drop of amonia this should fix the problem. I have never had one of these pens returned in fact there are some people who have had the

audacity to ask for another, they were mainly English like me!!!!!!

Message to dexaco; just noticed your location of Tyneside I am ex Boldon Colliery

I emigrated to Australia in 1960, I have been a Jinhao and Baoer pen user since

about the 1990's I love both of those brands and I still collect them, any

problems I usually head for You Tube who nearly always have the answer to the

problem,

what I have always liked about both of these brands is that they are affordable

and in the main the nibs are so smoooooooth if you get one which doesn't suit you at these prices you can afford to get as many as you like, my current collection cost me about $300.00 US.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
