Parker 51 Gold Filled Cap (1/8)

Hello, is there a place on the web, where one can buy a spare gold filled cap for a parker 51 vacumatic that is dated 1948? The one I have has a cap that has lost parts of its 'gold filling.". Your advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

My 1948 gold filled 51 also has "brassing" in the same location. It gives it character. I wouldn't replace it myself. If you want to, you can lightly polish the area with a sunshine cloth and the brass will shine up to look like the surrounding gold and it will look much better.

In my experience, not many good quality caps are for sale, or come up for auction that regularly

Your best bet is either:

1) contact some of the P51 experts and online sellers - like Ernesto at Parker51.com directly

2) just be patient, and keep searching ebay etc for badly listed auctions or auctions with poor photos ( sometimes sellers dont know what they have, and list pens at BIN prices below market rate)

Pens with perfect caps command a premium, for a reason - most pens were used ( they were an expensive item back in the day) and so there are far more dented/brassed/scratched caps around than pristine ones

Thank you so much for your all of the valuable comments. Of course, I can leave with the cap as I am in love with my pen and the way it performs each day. I will check with Ernesto directly or leave it for its character and look as is. I think that the gold plating might be one option. However, I understand that there is a difference between gold-filling and gold-plating. I am so new to this hobby with respect to P 51s.

Thanks again.

With patience and persistence one may be able to come across not one but dozens of spare gold filled/rolled gold caps in pristine condition.

And... where can I buy that "patient" you keep talking about? I'd prefer someone with local stock, since I'm in a hurry ;)

Impossible if in case you are in a hurry. :)

You being in a hurry is evident from your clicking the 'submit' button twice in a row. :) :)

Ok. So you are after this one. The transitional cap that came with the 1948 vac 51s.

  • 3 months later...

If I'm not mistaken, you've already found a cap replacement? I have a NOS gf cap I'm trying to get rid of.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
