Pilot Mixable Cartridge Orange

The Pilot Mixable colours come in cartridges only. Although Pilot says on the package that the Mixable cartridges are for their Parallel pens only, I've used all the colours in other pens with no adverse effect whatsoever.

The Mixable cartridges are generally very wet and smooth, with gorgeously saturated colours. The only problem I have with several of the Mixables is that they are prone to feather, especially on ordinary copy paper. Some colours behave better, like the Red (my favourite), the Blue, the Green (a doppelgänger of Parker Penman Emerald), the Black and the Blue-Black. I've also reviewed Violet, which could have been a doppelgänger of Lamy Dark Lilac if it wasn't so prone to feather.

Here is Orange, an intense and saturated colour. It seems to lay down as some kind of paint-like "almost-sheen" where the ink pools, giving it a slightly "dirty" look. It's also prone to feather. Water-resistance is quite impressive for an orange ink.

I admit, I really like the Pilot Mixable inks.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I’m wondering how they compare to the Platinum mixables. *rests chin in hands and ponders an experiment or 5*

The feathering makes sense, a Parallel can be pretty wide and many inks don’t flow well enough for regular use in the wide ones. And if you boost flow you boost feathering. There’s definitely trade offs for those particular nibs.

It’d be fun to try the inks in some of my iffy italic nibs too. Too bad they’re cartridges only.
