A Fast Drying, Somewhat Waterproof Or Water Resistant Ink?

HI Everyone, looking for a fast drying , water resistant (not sure i need water PROOF) ink! My main pen is a pilot metropolitan in a medium nib. Still trying to figure out if i want to upgrade to a better pen (i'll accept any recommendations). I was speaking to a friend and he mentioned a few to me, including:

Platinum pigment in blue , parker quink and Graf von Faber-Castell. Does anyone have any recommdations for inks that may suit me? I tend to write on cheap printer paper, i usually fold a single page into 4 and use that as my daily organizer.

Since you have a Pilot pen, try the regular Pilot Blue or Blue Black cartridges. Normally blue is easy rinsed off and black sticks, but Pilot does it the opposite way. Neither ink is especially fancy, but it’s cheap, reliable and the good kind of boring. If you determine you like one, they come in 30, 70 and 350mL bottles. (No, I’m not joking with that last one)

For bomb proof my personal go to is Platinum Carbon Black. Pigmented ink like that can be a little finicky, and it will not wash off basically anything so spills are not great. I haven’t used Platinum’s pigmented blue (I am really fussy about blue), but Platinum generally makes decent ink.

There’s several other brands that offer very permanent inks, but if you just want water resistant I’d strongly recommend digging into reviews. Just bear in mind that blue ink is often washable.

Yes, dig into the ink reviews. Some fantastic information there.

For me, I prefer Noodler's Legal Lapis (kind of blue-green) or Heart of Darkness (just as it sounds).

+1 for Pilot Blue Black. Boring as all get out but cheap, reliable, and highly water-resistant.

Others I use with that performance profile are Noodler's Lexington Grey, Sailor Sei-boku (my personal favorite in this category), and Sailor Kiwa-guro.

If your pen is on the wet side, you might also consider R & K Scabiosa which is a rather lovely dusty purple. It is iron gall, however, so it is very dry. While it will not smudge, smear, or feather on even truly horrible paper, it also tends to look anemic in a dry pen.

ETA: Noodler's Black Swan in English Roses has a waterproof component (it will be perfectly readable after a coffee mishap) and is quite well behaved. I didn't think of it at first because to me it looks like dried blood. Ick.

You might want to give us some color ideas as well.

There are multiple things to consider. If you're using ordinary absorbent paper then dry time shouldn't be a big concern, unless you're using rhodia or clairfontaine. Noodler's ink offers a wide variety of waterproof inks with more color than you can imagine. Sailor's Kiwa guro is always my first choice of black, decent dry time on any paper and waterproof. Bad thing is Sailor is doubling their price right now so I'm not sure if you can still find the original 50ml round bottle.

The standard Pilot blue, blue black and black are exactly what you want: simple dye based inks that don't give any headaches and don't need any cleaning regime (as opposed to IGs and pigment), extremely water resistant bordering on waterproof (some dye is washed off, but what remains looks exactly like it was before a water submersion!), cheap, great flow...

Parker Quink doesn't have great water resistance & Faber Castell depends on ink colour, the best water resistance have cobalt blue and carbon black (which, contrary to its name, is not!! a carbon (pigment) ink).
