Lamy Safari - Replace Black Band Between Section And Barrel

The black band that separates the Safari section and barrel has broken. I always thought it was an o-ring, but it is a hard plastic hoop-type band..

 

I've looked for replacements online, but can't find any. Suggestions?

 

Has anyone used an o-ring to replace the band? If so, what size o-ring would be needed?

Only the whole grip section is sold as a spare part by Lamy.

 

I think an o-ring would try ro escape the section. 3D-printing or turning a replacement might be too expensive.

 

I would just buy a new grip section, take the ring off - it only needs a fingernail - and clip it on my usual pen. Then sell the other parts on eBay.

I've made these before. Not difficult.

watch_art -- How did you do it? I've measured the band and it is about 1/2 inch in diameter and the thickness of the band from inside to outside is a little less than 2mm. There are probably some official diagrams somewhere online.

I made it on my metal lathe for one of my pens a while back. It's not hard to do.

You can buy one of the Chinesium copies of Lamy Safari that are out there; Nearly all of the parts are interchangeable with true Lamy.

I have a Lanbitou Safari-clone that works with the cartridges, converters, nibs and caps of Lamy pens. I have just checked and the rings are also compatible.

Then of course you have a ready supply of bits to use elsewhere...

There are sellers on the 'Bay that are selling a Lanbitou 757 for $2, from HK, free ship.

I bought the LB 757 for this purpose exactly.

Have you tried to write to Lamy? They might provide you one.

Lamy has great customer service! My really old vintage Lamy Artus was in need of converter/cartridge and nothing fitted. I contacted Lamy Finland and they wanted to sent my pen to Lamy factory in Germany. I sent the pen and they found that right type of cartridge and sent the pen back with generous amount of fitting cartridges.

 

So I strongly recomend contacting Lamy.
