For pen purposes, you’re not going to see much difference in durability between a steel pen, an aluminum one, a magnesium one (no, nobody makes them but it’d be possible), a tungsten one and so forth. Carbon fiber might have differences, but the current Kaweco version is just applied to an aluminum pen.

 

Damn, now I’m imagining how to engineer a proper carbon fiber pen...

 

If I’m remembering right the shiny aluminum finish is meant to acquire wear marks as you use it tho. The steel will also, but there’s ways to finish steel so it’s easier to maintain shine. Neither one is going to easily wear out in your lifetime, and if there is an issue, it’d probably be with the various screw threads, not the body wearing through. And there’s ways to fix it if the screw threading gets messed up.

 

Basically when it comes to metal and pens, pick what you like.
