Actually, it is a wonderful material - the weaved surface.

I can only imagine how well it will put up against scratches.

I've had this pen over 11 years! I love it and just got another compliment on it today. It's in great shape still.

Was wondering how it compares in size to a Lamy 2000. Feel sure that it weighs more. Looking for a larger weighter pen than the lamy 2000. I like the fact that it seems tough and durable.

Oberon

It weighs about the same as a Lamy 2000M, but it's longer. I can post the cap on my Lamy 2000M, but not on my P3110.. it becomes too unwieldy. That said, it would probably weigh a little over twice as much as a Lamy 2000 Makrolon.

The writing feel is very similar. The P3110 is smoother, while the Lamy is a bit wetter. Both are stiff nibs. One thing I like about the P3110 is that I can easily check the ink level by unscrewing the grip and nib section and checking the converter. Not possible on the 2000M, though the 2000 has an ink window. I think the Lamy has a larger ink capacity though.

I like that the Lamy is not a screw top, but the P3110 cap releases in a single turn, so it's not terribly inconvenient.
