Always a lovely italic hand, G'pa David.

By going thru the Ziller manual for Business Penmanship the second time, I have improved a bit. I am happy that I can finally use one of my favorite pen without nib modifications. Shaeffer Imperial Triumph in Fine nib. Sheaffer black cartridge.

Thanks, _Inky!

Your Palmer (?) cursive looks a lot like what I was taught in elementary school. Note that I said "taught," not "learned."

I also have that model Shaeffer but with a custom italic nib. Haven't inked it in ages.

QOTW - 10-3-2018

post-73460-0-43435100-1538593523_thumb.jpg

Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. was a physician, but he was best known as a poet, essayist and humorist.* He was the father of supreme court justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. Many of the pithy aphorisms attributed to Justice Holmes were actually written by his father. Not to take anything away from Justice Holmes who was an important scholar and gifted word smith in his own right.

Enjoy!

David

* Google "Old Ironsides" (poem) or "The Autocrat at the Breakfast Table" (essays) or "The Contagiousness of Puerperal Fever" (Contribution to medical science). These are but examples. Holmes was one of the most prolific American authors of the 19th century.

P.S. Any resemblance to current American political affairs (or affaires) is purely coincidental.

Nice quote David!

The italic portion was written with a Pilot Parallel pen 1.5mm and Pilot Blue Ink. The copperplate section was written with a Desiderata pen and Pilot Iroshizuku Take-Sumi ink.

Mr. Salman,

This penmanship is beyond lovely. Were you inspired by a certain script? Okay, let me get down to the nitty gritty. Is there a course for this hand?

Lyric,

The hand with the Wingsung 698 is what probably could be called undisciplined copperplate. I learned it mostly from the 1989 Eleanor Winters book.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
