Help Me Identify My New Parker 45.

I have just received a new Parker 45 in the mail which I am unable to identify. It was made in England, appears to be made of aluminium with a matt black finish, had chrome trim with a black plastic end cap like the earlier flighters. Any ideas?

This is a Parker 45 TX and should have a date code Q, possibly U, I thought that the matt black TXs were all from Argentina, perhaps not.

Do TXs have an end cap like that though? I understood not, but I'm truly out of my depth here.

fwiw, on this page concerning the Coronet, I noticed:

Trim is nearly always in gold although there are examples with black plastic tail ends like the Flighters from the same time period.

Dunno whether a case can be made for that?

I can't find a date stamp on the cap. Just 'Parker 45 made in England 45'. The shape with the end cap is more like a Coronet than a TX but I thought they were only made in the states. Incidentally the pen has a 'D' nib which is fun.

Hi Glen1981

Please can you re photograph the upper shell ( barrel ) from the back

The tip should unscrew, do it gently.

I saw that one and it did look odd, it'll be nice to get a bit more concrete info about it. The seller thought the barrel and cap were plastic, whereas you say it appears to be aluminium - is that pretty definite or do you have any doubts?

Just picking up on a few of the other points, there were black TX 45s made in Newhaven, though they weren't officially called TX by Parker unlike the blue ones, and they didn't have the gold disc on the end of the barrel. They didn't have the separate end trim, or 'tail', that the Coronets and earlier Flighters had. They were marked 'Made in UK' (as opposed to England), the two I've got are both date-coded 'I' for 1994. I've only seen or heard of ones with gold trim.

I don't think this pen is a Coronet or TX variant mainly because the cap opening is wider than the barrel and so sits proud of the barrel when the pen is capped, whereas both Coronet and TX caps are the same width and so sit flush in the way Flighters do; and the cap has the metallic trim around the open end (in this case chrome) whereas the Coronet and Flighter caps have no trim (again like the Flighters). This cap looks like the 45 Arrow caps.

If the barrel is definitely aluminium but the cap turns out to be plastic then it could be a Coronet barrel that someone has fitted the black plastic end trim to from a Flighter or Insignia, or maybe one of the black tail versions that parker45pens.com mentions. I'd certainly be interested to hear more about the materials of this one.

The D nib is a medium italic and they are fun, you did well in that alone so enjoy :)

I've never seen a TX with the black tail end piece like the Coronet has, nor any pictures of a TX with chrome trim.

Yay! They are Parker 45 TX pens. One day I hope to find one at a reasonable price, but all of the ones I've seen have been in very poor condition. :(

Sadly, this doesn't help our OP though. :(

Hood,

Do you have the ballpoint too?

Would be nice to know what you think about the Newhaven blank upper shell.

Never seen one before.

Know someone who would though

Sitting back for a moment
