Gorgeous pen (and photo!) With so much beauty, one hardly needs any more. I just learned the significance of the name (Edson) this week in a book about the history of fountain pens. Looks like your pen fits its name perfectly. What year is it? Is yours from the 1990s?

Ihad a few Watermans but now only Hemisphere and Graduate. Still I think of a Hemisphere as one of the best pens. It was with me through years of learning in schools.

Thats a lovely set; it looks like a Taperite Citation from the 1940s.

I only have a few, mostly, mostly ring tops:

 

452 1/2v, hand engraved vine pattern

442 1/2v safety, filagree pattern

452 1/2v, filigree pattern

542 1/2v, safety, smooth finish

 

The blue pen, which I think is a Lady Garland, was given to my aunt when she finished elementary school; she recently passed it on to me.

I acquired it in 1999. I wish I had spread out and gotten the blue and ruby as well.

I have a Le Man Opera. It’s a wonderful pen but I confess that it’s been in it’s box in pretty much mint or only used a few times condition for probably 25 years. Nothing against the pen but I stopped collecting and mostly use a few favorites. I guess I should give it a try again.

I think I've figured out what my Waterman's pen is. It appears to be a Nurse's Pen made in Canada. The nib, however, has no size indication (it says "Watermans Ideal 14KT Canada" and that's all).

Some Carenes, some Phileas pens, some Laureats, a Crusader, a graduate and some Lara Croft Tomb Raider pens. I like the latter ones most.

Wonderful photo (always fun to see the top of the cap!) What kind of Waterman is it? ... Oh, I see! It's a Preface,isn't it? Both you and Ian are lucky dogs!

 

Yes, it's a Preface.

 

I also have one, in burgundy, and it's a great pen, with a lovely line, and excellent balance.

 

At the time, it was the most expensive pen I'd bought, and it was both, scary and exciting, to spend $180 on a pen. And, of course, I was certain I would never have to buy any other pen. Hah!

 

My two other Watermans are a Carene, which is on loan with someone who really liked it until I grow the balls to ask her to return it to me, and a Phileas whose nib's a tad large for my taste and I should definitely sell it, as it'll never be a favorite of mine.
