Diamine Oxblood Safe For Vintage Parkers?

I realize the subjects of vintage pens and modern inks have been discussed to death. But can anyone confirm that Diamine Oxblood is safe for vintage Parker pens? I have a super 21 with a super clean sac that I would like to keep that way.

Thank You!

I don't know about Diamine Oxblood in particular, but:

- Diamine inks, in general, are fine with rubber sac pens

- The Parker 51 aerometric and P51 Special used a "pli-glass" sac, specially made for Parker by DuPont. They don't seem to wear out. (I don't know what material Parker used in the Super 21)

- If you fill a sac with ink, don't worry about keeping the sac clear. It won't stay that way long. Just now I checked the sac in three aerometric P-51s and a 51 Special. All four are dark.

Diamine have been making ink for over 150 years so I suspect their inks have been used in many pens that are now vintage. I've not used Oxblood in a super 21 but I know it doesn't permanently stain it's 30ml plastic bottle. :)

Any and all sac pens will be stained by any and all inks. Unless you fill a tiny amount and clean every day with pen flush, it won’t stay clean for long. Sorry to break this to you. If you are really desperate to keep it clean I think there are some brands out there that make unstainable sacs, but the names seemed to have slipped my mind. Hope I helped :)!

You may want to have a look at Post 45 in this thread

For whatever reason some people have found that Diamine inks can cause staining, but I wish you every success in using Oxblood in your Parker, perhaps you can surprise the doubters and show some before and after pics of your Parker.

I have used Oxblood in a few vintage pens and would say it is safe to use. As for staining, yes it will stain. Personally I feel that's a consequence of using ink, any ink.

I think that the OP said that their pen had a very clean sac, i take your point Jackflash that Diamine Oxblood will stain.

My advice would be to use a low saturated ink that is washable, try and keep the sac as clear as possible for as long as possible,

Rather a broad brush here. Washable inks, and inks like Pelikan blue and black are much less likely to stain a sac, if at all. The dye saturated inks however are likely to stain a sac.

Hmmm, I think I might be inclined to sticking with Waterman, Pelikan, and Sheaffer for vintage pens and getting Diamine for non-vintage writers.

Thanks!

How much is staining a problem in a Super 21? I found a Parker Super 21 in the back of my desk. The sac looks black, just like the pli-glass sac in a 51 Special (mentioning the 51 Special because the Super 21 seems to have the same sort of hoop filler). So is the sac in all the 51 and 51 Specials I have -- about two dozen. If you use this pen, the sac is unlikely to stay "clear" very long.

What would be the purpose of trying to maintain a semi-clear sac in a 21?

I don't know a purpose for trying to maintain a semi-clear sac in a 21, and I also think it won't stay clear no matter what ink is used.

Sounds like an opportunity to see if this is true, I have a 51 that has been in regular use since the 1960s and that has an almost clear sac, does anyone have a 21 with a near clear sac?

I know that Diamine claim to have been making inks since the 1800s but my father doesnt remember them from the 1960s for example, nothing much before 2010, is this true?

I have a few 21s Super with super clear and almost clear sacs. But to be honest I dont use them much. And clean them thoroughly whenever I use them. And the pens are with me for the last almost 30 years. I also have 51s with almost clear sacs. I say almost because there is some slight ambering in the sacs but are still clear.

Following Mittos comment I have done a search to see if I can find other examples of 21s with clear sacs, I think that you need to take a pinch of salt with the idea that the sacs are affected by whatever ink is used.
