Lamy 2018 Special Edition Colours Leaked

since when that black is limited? comes and goes over the years....

The glossy black Safari is recent and, indeed, not a limited edition...

The black Al-Star supposedly was intended as a limited run, but ended being the substitute in the permanent collection for the raw aluminium pen with black trimmings.

The charcoal/umbra Safari is an oldie in the lineup.

The new limited edition is a true black Safari with black nib, clip and ring, in a brushed finish (such as the Safari’s of old and the lilac and petrol editions).

My first Lamy Safari was all matte black (or I guess it was charcoal). That includes the clip.

For a "limited edition" that is beyond boring.

I would love to see some earth tones for the Safari.

Forest green, Burnt Orange, Ocher, Brown

And Blue Green would be nice.

I really did like last years petrol. I am glad I was able to get a pen. Too bad I couldn't get the ink.

Hi Arcaneradio,

You might still get your chance... according to that interview Brian Goulet had with Lamy's CEO; Lamy plans to release 10 New inks this year... perhaps three of them will be Petrol, Dark Lilac and Copper Orange. :puddle:

We can hope. :)

There is a brown Safari, made for South Korea.

Wouldn't that undermine the current owner holdings.

Maybe they will release Dark Copper-Lilac and Petrol-Orange A couple of rich grays.

Hi Pajaro,

I know it would negate their L.E. status, but this not uncommon for Lamy; who seem to use L.E. colors as gauges.

The pink and apple green Safari's, as well as the black and blue-green Al-Stars, started out as L.E.'s and are now standard range colors. I imagine the same can be done for inks.

It will be,... if they're smart. ;)

P.S.: I had long hoped the aquamarine Safari would also join the standard catalog... alas,... :( ...it hasn't as of yet.

Hi, again, Pajaro,

I doubt very much a pope would speak infalably on Faith or Morals from the Chair of St. Peter using a Lamy Safari... he'd use a Parker Duofold for that. :)

Amazing collection!

It seems that the hue is extremely light...

... but I'll guess that it has more to do with your extremely good lighting than the real brown hue of the pen!

It should be in my collection of Safari's with black trimmings and textured surfaces!

p.s. Where do you keep the bears?!

We are talking inks here, not pens. For a pen it would indeed negate the LE status.

But ink is a consumer product.

Unless somebody has been sitting on 200 bottles of LE ink, hoping to sell them at ridiculous prices, in which case I would LOVE the fact they were made part of the regular lineup. Hoarding large numbers of a scarce commodity, denying them to many fans, only to make a profit later is criminal, in my opinion.

I bought one of the Aquamarine Safaris, the first one I liked, for the 1.5 mm italic. Just as something for my wife to use, since she said she would send some letters. The Aquamarine is such an ordinary color that I am surprised they haven't made it a regular offering. I had no idea this was a limited edition. I suppose the Petrol and Dark Lilac are sexier colors.

Among the many pens I have tried there is a short list of pens I have tried that do not dry out overnight. The Safari is on that list.

I had thought the black safari was one of the oldest colours available.

Out of curiosity, anyone knows what is the oldest colour still made today for this pen?

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
