Lamy 2018 Special Edition Colours Leaked

It will probably be put to rest once the new limited edition matte black is available in stores, and both pens could be seen by owners side-by-side.

Yeah. Color managment is too much even for many in the business.

LizB's picture also shows a brownish grey.

Without really thinking about it, I would have called the Charcoal Safari black. But when more closely examining it, you can see that it is a warmer greyer black (I'd be reluctant to call it outright brown), and that Lamy could easily produce a deeper cooler black pen that would look clearly different in comparison. As said above, we won't really know what they are making until the pens are in the wild.

Edit: Just thought, I should have included the standard black glossy Safari in the picture too. That definitely makes the Charcoal seem less black. (This is all getting a bit Spinal Tap).

No problem. You'll see. Not everyone has "the eye" for it. I used to work in the printing business. And that gets your eyes a bit trained for colors.

Scientificly seen your eyes can lie to you.

That's exactly what I keep telling myself when I shave in the morning.

I stopped shaving some time ago. It is just too much like the myth of Sisyphos. :D

As opposed to my husband, who started growing a mustache (and then a beard) back when he was in high school -- he said it was because he didn't like the idea of a sharp object near his throat that early in the morning....

Hi Astron,

I would have responded sooner, but I had to Google the Myth of Sisyphus. Here's a quote from Wiki for the benefit of others who go through life as clueless as me:

"In the essay, Camus introduces his philosophy of the absurd, man's futile search for meaning, unity, and clarity in the face of an unintelligible world devoid of God and eternal truths or values."

That sounds like one of those motivational books that'll get ya up and running with a new found zeal for life.

Fortunately for me, I subscribe to the polar opposite of Camus' philosophy, but then, I live in my own little world. :D.

Actually, despite my joke above, I can't really complain... outside of a few extra lines in my mug and some touches of frost in my hair... I haven't really changed much.

Now I know you can't be as bad off as poor Camus when you shave, but I have to ask... how is that beard working out for you? I tried one, but keeping it trimmed was a pain... I'd trim here and there... and there and here... and by the time I was done trying to even everything out for a uniform look, I ended up looking like Beavis and Butthead when they glued hair trimmings to their faces. :D

For me, it seems easier to risk slitting my throat and shaving. :)

Well, my philosophy is that there is no meaning in life. You'll have to give it meaning yourself as there is no deity or universal plan to do it for you. Your only concern should be not to hurt others and treat them with respect.

I know this is very hard for many people - the fact that there is no predetermined meaning. Or treating others with respect. That's why religions are so popular. :)

Concerning the beard, I trim it from time to time keeping it about 10-20mm. So, no gandalfism. I started it because shaving was quite time consuming and my skin doesn't like blades or electric shavers. First I started with the usual stubbles for many years. But for a fantasy convention and the costume I would let it grow longer. My wife liked it and I wear it this way since. Trimming takes time too, but it is easy to do at the weekend every 1 or 2 weeks. My beard doesn't grow uniform ether but it gets better the longer it is. With a few swipes here and there it is good. "Renegade hairs" I usually get in front of the bathroom mirror with a pair of small scissors. It's said most people don't notice irregularities anyway...

Hi Astron,

See, for me; I find it a lot easier to respect other people... and to put up with their failings and foibles, (because, after all; we have none, right? :vbg:),... when I spiritually see the Indelible Image of God in my neighbor's eye's... and everyone is my neighbor... even you atheists. :D

Yes, the longer you let your beard grow; the easier it is to trim and shape, but I never cared for the look of a long beard,... but that's just me. :)

P.S.: What is more, this belief is being put into good practice while we speak... I'm stuck in another jam on R21. :D

P.S. 2: Back to the topic at hand... the way I figure it, the LE black Safari is just going to be a gloss black Safari with a matte finish and black trim... and like Wastelanded said earlier... "way to push the envelope there, Lamy." :lticaptd:

Well, I was thinking last year about a matte black Safari. Miraculously they made it. Maybe I shall think of a glow-in-the-dark Safari for 2019.

This is actually quite disappointing. The Petrol and Dark Lilac were really stunning colors. They really "upped" their game for those two. I like the matte texture they were going for. It would be neat for them to expand on it, maybe introducing a darker green or even a deep reddish burgundy one. Its almost as if Lamy is getting lazy. They did rebottle Turquoise as Pacific, as we all remember. :lticaptd:

You can think of both, maybe consecutive years :D

I agree 100 % with Intensity. I have yet to get a new photo hosting account, but pictures of my Charcoal Safari would show that it is as un-Brown as the pen in HDoug's photo.

Astron, you can believe what you want, but until I see scientific data that a spectral analysis on a Charcoal pen (not a photo of a pen) reveals whatever the wavelengths of light that produce the perception of "brown" or we get a color specification from Lamy for the plastic used to produce these pens, I will believe my eyes.

And yes, the "gloss" black o-ring, clip, and nib look "blacker" than the barrel and cap. But they are "matte" and therefore look different. Are the Cap and Barrel very dark gray? Perhaps. I see no brown in them however.

I don't understand why you must be so cold.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
