The Perfect Airmail Stationery

Airmail or Onion Paper

has been discussed here.

I am a big fan of this kind of stationery, and I have tried a number of brands over the years with little success. Crane's "Via Airmail" is an exception; it is excellent, but hard to find (thank you Kurt!).

I tried another one that used to be relatively cheap in Germany a few years ago. I bought several blocks, and managed to have a more or less regular supply, but my German Connection is not working anymore :(

These are scans of the front and back of the very last (now empty) block of this stationery. As you can see, it still has a price sticker in DM.

Does anybody know this brand? Can it be found out there? I would be really grateful if someone could give me a link to a store that sells it.

Thanks a lot,

Alejandro

Alejandro, I'm afraid these blocks are pretty old. I've never seen them around here, but I've never been looking out for airmail stationery.

Your paper was made by the company BRUNNEN. I've checked their webpage but it seems like they are not producing it anymore (see for yourself: http://www.brunnen.de/index_flash.html there's an english version too).

mk-papier.de doesn't sell paper, its some kind of mailing service for advertising letters (??? don't know how you call this -> kind of real life spam).

I'm sorry I couldn't help you... maybe someone here known another good brand of airmail stationery.

Alejandro,

Go to any art supply store and buy tracing paper...it's fantastic with fountain pens. :P

That's right! tracing paper or vellum of even they make rolls of a really thin sketch paper for designers & engineering drawings that would work. You might have to cut it to size but it would have the transparency.

Crane makes (did make) Air mail paper. I bought both white and blue in the last few years. One (white) came in a tablet and the blue was in a box (paper and envelopes). The blue was the most recent purchase. Further research lead me to a posting on the FP Network site from 11/06 and I found out it has been discontinued. Available only from remainder shops, old stock type things. Sorry

Basildon Bond make a very nice Airmail paper - several places sell it online.

Thanks for this suggestion. They have a nice website and what appears to be a good product line. I shall be looking for some, to try it out.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
