Week #50 / 10 Dec: Kill Winter With Orange - 2017 Weekly Ink Project

Recommended Posts

Winter is coming! Kill winter with an orange ink. (If it's summer where you live, kill the heat with aqua/turquoise/blue/mint!

As usual, don't forget to share with us your choice of ink, your writing, drawing, doodling or anything with the ink in this thread. You can take a photo, make a scan, or even better, write letters and CRV reviews (what is a CRV?) and mail them to the many ink pals here. You are welcome to check back on this thread even when we've gone past this week.

Next week: Thanks for the Memory
=================================
We are near the end of the year guys! Thank you for joining! What do you think about this year's weekly ink projects? Are they fun to do? Maybe once per week is too frequent? Do you still want to do something like this next year? Personally I think it's fun to pick an ink every week and see what the others come up with, but maybe it's a bit too frequent. I'm thinking about something like a monthly ink combos next year, something like matching two inks every month, with themes like "complementary colours month", "doppelgängers month", etc. What do you think?

Hi Jinhui: For next year, I like the idea of color combinations or complements —maybe based on a theme. That would be fun!

Here's my contribution this week. Sorry for the blurry photo —didn't realize it until after I uploaded it.

As you may imagine, I have a lot of these Fall/Halloween colors on hand... ;)

Ahh, Mr Orange . . . :)

I was going to say that! This week is tailor made for Herbert!

I agree completely with you. I don't know who invents the names for inks at Monteverde, but they really messed up with this one: this ink has absolutely nothing in common with a fire opal. Actually, the first time I saw it up close, it looked almost exactly like the color of well cooked "Pumpkin Pie," so I just call it that now.

And yes, it is a bit dry. A little PhotoFlo, and it works very nicely.

Just googled what pumpkin pie is. That's the colour!

I guess I was misled by their purported "flow enhancing" IFF or ITF or something technology...

My latest purchase. Not going to be my favourite orange though.

(with swabs comparing to other oranges)

This looks kinda like Diamine Ancient Copper, at least on my screen. Would you say this is so?

I like your idea of monthly ink pairing---I'm sure this will enhance my journal!

Well it's Summer here and yesterday was 35C so I am wanting to cool down. When I prepared this sample it was between 2 heatwaves. Today (Thursday) we are having another brief respite from the heat. I hate Summer. :bawl:

Thanks for your idea Lgosltek.

While I found the weekly ink posts great and they encouraged me to explore more inks, I think the weekly theme can be challenging. I like the idea of ink pairing themes and think weekly pairings will be difficult, so monthly is a good idea.

Swab #0 on the right hand edge is Diamine Ancient Copper, and I also find it a little more 'brick' :)

I love orange inks and I don't know which one to choose. I currently have one of my own mixes loaded in my Pilot Custom 74. Is that allowed?

Of course! Just tell us how you made it (assuming you know  ).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
