Birth Year Pen

I have a Sheaffer PFM V as my birth year (1959) pen.

I like to believe that the pen is a 1959 Australian made with "Sheaffer's" branded on the nib but the cap has the "Sheaffer" branding, so I cannot count the cap as 1959. This is as close as I can get to 1959.

I only have two pens - an Aurora Optima and others.

Now I need to buy myself a Pelikan Jubilee....

Beautiful pens originally produced in 1988 for the 150th anniversary of Pelikan. You can get the goldplated M760 or the silverplated M750.

i now have 3 vintage Pilot fps with a production mark stating the same year AND month as my bday. will keep hunting for more. and i do agree with OCArt, it's kinda cool having and using a pen that is the same age as us.

I don't, but as it was the Coronation Year it wouldn't be too hard for me.

As far as I remember I do have a pencil which came with a lot of other things I wanted and have just bought a Unique pen and pencil set that was:

'Presented to Mr S J Dorrington in token of his faithful leadership of the Church of the Good Shepherd Junior Youth Club' in 1953

I am pleased to say that every one of my pens is within 0.4% of my birth year as a ratio of the natural logarithms. I have pens which may possibly coincide cardinally, but what advantage is that?

😁

So your collection essentially covers the entire history of Fountain pens. That's a good range to have....

eta: They truncate before 1920. My problem was to include the modern ones in range, which will give you an estimate.

I like to imagine that my Sheaffer Cadet Tip-Dip was produced around my birth year as the black section indicates mid-50s.

I have a black one of these, great pen. Also two bright red ones.

Between the Parker 61 and the Lamy 2000 is what I'd say, skewed towards the 61 😆

I set out to be a little vague so no further comment. :)

When I was was into collecting double edge razors. I collected a few that were from my birth year. My question is do any of you hunt down vintage pens from your year of birth for collecting?

Yup, I had this idea too back then. But once i tried to start hunting... surprise surprise, i got distracted by other pens in general that I forgot what it was i was supposed to be focused on!!! Hahahaha!! Oh well...

If only Sheaffer got the Targa out a few years earlier. And I do recall trying to get a black-striped Pilot Custom with at least the code of my birth year on it. Month and year would have been perfect. Maybe one day. No rush for now.

You can't always get what you want... but if you try sometimes... you just might find... you'll get what you need...

Congrats! Just what I was talking about. Have you posted photos of these vintage Pilots anywhere on FPN? Would love to see them. B)

I am glad that finding your birth pens is a thing. Now to find one in my price range. LOL I love the Pilot MYU from 1976 which is not in my price range... Maybe if I hit the lottery :lticaptd:

I can't say I hunted any down but my Mom bought a Parker Vac to send to Dad (he was in Africa at the time) that is the rear and quarter I was born and I do have that. Unfortunately it is near impossible to identify a "birth year" razor for me. The pen might offer a clue why the razor is near impossible to find.
