New Pelikan 805 Ocean Swirl

I'm betting late November when those who pre-ordered are getting really antsy some small vendor will 'accidentally' ship the pen after which all other pre-orders will be quickly shipped. Pelikan will then announce the pen has been available for weeks and doesn't understand what all the fuss is about.

Sorry for the attack of SOP (SenileOldPhart's Disease)... I'm thinking M605 White while reading the M805 thread. sigh...

Here are the first pics of the M805 Ocean Swirl that I've seen in the wild; https://www.instagram.com/p/BbMLW5sgd-K/?taken-by=drai913

Rare that a pen looks better in real world pics than marketing materials. I was underwhelmed by the official pics but the few images Ive seen since are impressive. Although, those instagram shots make the Renaissance Brown look better than it does in person so maybe I should temper my expectations a bit.

It certainly looks more blue in those pictures than the early green-ish ones.

I had thought I'd probably be getting one, but now I'm pretty sure I'll pass.

I think they really nailed the color; that's what I was hoping this year's release of the Aurora 365 would look like. It's made me seriously consider if I can wing an M800 (no pun intended ;) even though it's big for me!

I almost pre-ordered for FPD yesterday, but I'm waiting for more pictures to arrive. The video is lovely, but it seems the chattoyance is only on two sides of the material, was hoping it would show all around the pen. Maybe there will be variation but it's likely this is the nature of the that particular material.

I was thinking about this too, and I bet you are right. It seems some acrylic patterns can only be made to show the variation on a horizontal plane that runs the length of the pen. Its like theres a directional light reflection/refraction property that is the byproduct of how it is made. This is quite unfortunate for this particular pen. Its such a winner otherwise. Ive had some things come up financially and a watch Ive had up for sale on another forum hasnt sold yet, so I might end up canceling my preorder. Knowing the pattern of this pen isnt as homogenous as my Renaissance Brown helps to ease the sting a bit...sigh.

Fountain Pen Hospital appears to have the pen in stock and up on their website.

Just so no one gets too excited, the Fountain Pen Hospital site says mid-November release.

Eh, I just emailed Appelboom to cancel my order. If the whole pen isn't going to show the pattern, I think I'd be disappointed. My wallet is soon to be 460 dollars heavier. That feels pretty good...lol.

Nibsmith.com is promising with humorous specificity: "Available on: 11/22/2017 at 11:37:00".

I don't mind the change in reflection based on angle. It reminds me of the change in appearance based on rotation of a Parker Vacumatic which is one of my favorite designs. Though I do wish my wallet were $460 heavier too.

Well, if I didnt need the money or l knew I was getting a Christmas bonus or something, I might have gotten it anyway, lol. I do like the color I just wish it showed from every angle. Oh well, its a luxury, not a necessity...

Sorry bout the false alarm. I looked everywhere for an availability date. Guess I missed it.

From my very, very limited experience with Pelikan release dates, they give a month. It can show up at any time from the first day of the month to the last day of the month.

I am told that the colour would show from every angle. So I just ordered it.

I am sure youll love it. It truly is a beautiful color. The Instagram video of it showed the color being more localized to planes, or sides, of the pen though. It seems to come and go as the pen is rolled over.

The retailer said that it won't be localised and would be all over the pen body. That's the understanding with which I bought the pen. In case the pen doesn't have the pattern all over, I will get a full refund. Though the price is really good to even buy it without the pattern all over the body.
