My Grandmother's Pen

My mother has her mother's Wahl pen, shown here. These are her phone pictures she recently sent me, so not the best, but enough to identify. The nib reads "Signature" while most nibs I have been able to find by searching online read "Eversharp."

A lovely "lady's" model pen ! As an heirloom from your grandmother, it is very special.

Is your mother well ? Does she use the pen ? It is likely that the internal ink sac is more than fifteen years old, and due for replacement. Restoration of the pen to working condition would cost less than a steak dinner.

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

My mother is okay, thanks. Aged, but okay. She has an attachment to the pen, so I won't be taking possession anytime soon. I also have no reason to believe the pen is in any condition to write, and my mother has likely never used it in the many years she's had it. Should I one day become the pen's guardian, I may well look into restoration.

I use my great-grandmother's ringtop, it's a lovely writer.

Agree with Sasha to replace/get the sac replaced before you use the pen. Replacement is not expensive. A broken sac is a leaking, staining mess.

Your mum could wear it on a lanyard - the sort of thing you can buy on Amazon for holding a memory stick.

Thanks. Good point about replacing the sac and will do if I get the chance.

Yes! I wonder if she ever thought of it. She does a lot of beading for bracelets and necklaces so I'll mention it.

If she goes for the idea, she might want to put a dab of craft adhesive on the threads inside the cap. The downside of ringtops is a tendency for them to unscrew themselves and disappear.

Don't ask me how I know.
