Hi all, from Missouri,

 

I've recently begun to collect pens, ballpoint and fountain, as I found a Parker 51 aerometric at an estate sale for $4 two weeks ago; talk about a steal! After that it was off to the races, and I went out and found some vintage Cross Century Classics, which have become some of my favorite pens thus far. Other than that I'm pretty new to the whole pen collecting scene.

Welcome aboard, from Charleston, SC. As a newbie, you might look at the Reference Pages on a website called Richard's Pens: it has a wealth of info about the basics of fountain pens, their use and care, and it will help you avoid making some mistakes. Have fun.

Welcome !

 

If you are only going to "look" at the pens, take nice photographs for an album, and sell the pens.

However, fountain pens are for writing ! I think you will discover pleasure in the easy writing of liquid ink. Don't FORCE anything, that binds or sticks, on your fountain pens. Send them away to be restored to working condition. You will love the results.

New here, name's Vinnie. 26 from New Jersey

I am looking into a pen in the $20 range called the Nemosine Singularity Demonstrator. Has anybody heard of it? Is it a good pen, are the other demonstrators out at that price that are better? I am looking at it because it will be my first converter pen.

 

I am also looking at 3 inks. They are Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-Ryoku Deep Green, Monteverde California Teal and Diamine Sherwood Green.

 

Any info you guys may have would be greatly appreciated.

That is exactly what I think about pens. They are a tool, meant to be used. My only fear is that some @ school will steal it, idk. The Parker 51 appears to be in very nice condition; only two minor dents and some scuffs and scratches.

You definitely got a steal if you paid $4 for a 51 Aero! (I LOVE 51s.... :wub:) What color did you get, and what's the nib on it?

I generally recommend that new people click on the "View New Content" button when they log in, in order to get a good overview of a lot of different topics. Don't do what I did when I first joined: I read the Parker Forum -- in its ENTIRETY; 5-1/2 years ago there were 175 PAGES of threads (it's even bigger now...). Also, have a look at the pinned Index for the Ink Reviews Forum.

But you should know that we are all shameless enablers here (after all, your 51 will need company with all those Cross Centuries! :rolleyes:). Oh, there is a thread you should really have a look at (I think it's also pinned in the Parker Forum) called something like "So You've Found Your First 51 in the Wild" which is full of really useful advice, such as how to flush old ink out of pens -- I found it's good for checking and flushing all sorts of vintage pens (not just 51s). And the odds are good (since yours is an Aerometric) that all you will need to do is just flush the pen out well, and then fill it with ink after letting it drain, without any sort of repairs needed.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
