Composition Notebook Quality

Look at Muji Notebooks. Online store: Muji

I've tried a majority of their notebooks and most are great. Rarely any bleeding or feathering. Look for "plantation" notebooks for the best price. Looks like they are currently out of stock for both B5 and A5. They sell quickly.

Just recently bought a stack of the Slim B5 notebooks. Their "high quality easy open" line is delightful.

You have to keep a finger on the pulse for this store. The offerings appear somewhat random, although, the plantation notebooks seem to be their standard offering.

I usually get the Brazil ones. They have been pretty consistent.

I use composition books constantly for my plays and novels. I don't really care about bleed through. I know these are cheap but so are the words I write.

The composition notebook, as we call it in America, seems to be a pretty universal piece of stationery. I have seen comparable notebooks from France, Italy, Spain, and Russia, with Clairefontaine being an easy example of a popular, and notable, one. But, lately, the composition notebooks available from Staples and Walmart, which were fine for many years, are DELPORABLE! The covers are like thin card stock, and the paper is abominable! The quality has certainly deteriorated. It used to be easy to find heavy cardboard covers that contained graph paper with light lines at many stores and university bookstores--no longer is this the case! What inexpensive alternatives remain? Are average student notebooks of such poor quality-- like this-- in other countries? I can't imagine most French students shelling out the asking price of a Clairefontaine for average grammar school work, but from what I understand these were/are the classic student notebook? What is the average quality and price of student notebooks in other countries? Given Staples and Norcom's disappointments, what remains?

I actually found one at Walmart with the quad ruling for work, which is where it is. I'll have to get a look at which brand it is when I go in tomorrow.

Oh so you're the reason why superstore sold out of graph paper. It is made in China paper and China seems to be mixing their cheap paper with more clay which explains why cheap Chinese paper is often more fp friendly. I found it plays well with parker quink, merangue and waterman and monteverde inks. I haven't tried other blacks yet but I will soon when I order my black ink samples from Brian Edited by bluebellrose

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
