Here is where you can buy the overlay pens by Laban:

http://www.wndpens.com/laban/magister.htm

I've been considering these myself; and the seller writes that he can order any pen from Laban if you do not see the design you want . I have no experience buying from this website though.

The two Laban overlays I have are very nice writers. They are well made and have very smooth nibs.

Please visit my wife's website.

I've ordered from Ray before. A top notch operation.

Either Ray (http://www.wndpens.com) or Todd (http://www.isellpens.com) should be able to hook you up with the Spiderweb pen...

Or for a bit more... :)

The Pelikan M215

It's got the black/white color scheme, and it's available in a variety of nib widths...

I guess I just felt to old to be a goth when I was in my early to mid 20s. It might be because I had kids by that time or maybe it's just that you are just a more adventurous person than I am. Anyway, good luck getting the Duke ruby. If you don't mind, let me know what you think of it; I've wanted one for a while but I never got around to getting one.

I was really a goth in high school, mostly. In my twenties I rarely went clubbing, and now I don't go at all (although I do subscribe to my city's gothic online community -- mostly to get new music recommendations).

In high school I had black back-combed hair (think 80s-era Robert Smith or Siouxsie Sioux), red lipstick, black fingernail polish, and those cool black-and-white striped stockings to wear with my combat boots. I hate wearing makeup as an adult, even normal makeup -- I didn't even wear the stuff for my wedding -- but I confess that my favorite outfit is currently a long purple velvet and satin gypsy skirt worn with black leggings, boots, and a black T-shirt. Old goths never die, we just get less angsty. :)

Thanks for the links, y'all. I may find myself with that Duke pen AND the Laban Spiderweb in future. Because one can never have too many pens!

One day, when you're in the mood to spend a little more:

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d138/leighpod/overlays.jpg

From left to right: Visconti Skeleton (not the limited edition), a widely available Chinese pen with white metal dragon overlay, Krone Architectus Gothic, Krone Architectus Westminster.

And my friend, who manages the world's only virtual band composed of BJDs (ball-jointed dolls), has borrowed my Peter Pan for a shoot with the band members, although I have yet to see the results on her site. They've got a wistful Goth look going, as well as a great Goth-by-way-of-Philippine-Catholicism sound (music downloads are available).

:) Happy hunting! :) I miss having blackish-red fingernails. :) I mean, the intended variety, not the oops-I-got-PR-Black-Cherry-on-them variety.

I own both the Visconti Skeleton and the Krone Gothic and they're both VERY sweet writers. Makes me feel more virtuous about dropping car payments on pens.

Oh you bad, bad people! You just made me order another pen (the Duke) even though I swore I wouldn't buy another pen for a long time.

How are the Duke nibs btw?

PS Caligatia, if they run out before your paycheck, I'll share mine with you  (but it seems there are plenty left)...

Leigh: those are some beautiful, beautiful pens. Wow. I am envious, although -- and don't take this the wrong way -- I hope I never start spending that kind of money on pens. :)

Stypen: This place is really hard on the wallet, isn't it?

My friends reminded me the other day that I used to claim I'd never spend over $100 on pens. But then I fell in love with Viscontis and QM2 talked me into the Krones...I think I'm hooked. :o

I've gotta confess, those pens of Leigh's are really tempting. Part of my brain's going "hey, you could save up for one" and then the rest of me is going "no, no, too much money!"

Actually, here's a question: how are they to write with, given that the grips are covered in all that ornate work? I don't want to buy anything that I can't use regularly...

The Visconti is like any other of its size, say the Van Gogh Maxi for comparison. The silver is matte and smooth, with the section left clear for gripping. I write with them posted, so they're going on for 7 inches! Balance like a dream in my hand and the nibs [nearly an inch long!] float over the page.

The Krones are the ones I thought would be problematic. They're fatter, the silver is MUCH heavier [i like a heavy pen, but I thought this might be TOO heavy] and the way I hold pens, my fingers would be gripping up on the overlay instead of down on the skinny sectional. [i have small hands and I write with my pens posted and often my fingers are above the sectional on many pens, which was my problem with some Marlens and the Charleston]. To my surprise, these are comfortable to hold! Because of their weight and balance, I find myself barely gripping them. The Krone nib is incredibly plain, especially contrasted against the ornate bodies. But it floats the way my beloved Viscontis do. They lay in my hand and let me write with them, unlike some narrower, lighter pens where I find myself gripping with my fingers and working a lot harder to write.

I adore the way my writing evens out and takes on a symmetry when I write with these pens. I think it's because I'm not having to work so hard with my fingers. My hand simply moves back and forth with the pen lying there as if born to fit. I can write hours longer.

I now have 2 Visconti Skeletons, the black and demonstrator, and 2 Krones, the Celtic and the Gothic. [Ohmygosh I just realized how much money I've spent on pens sitting on my desk!!!! :o ] and they've joined the Marlen Aderl as the chosen ones that never seem to leave.

I was fortunate to get the Krones from Fountain Pen Hospital where they're no nonsense about returns, but obviously never needed to. I was pretty sure I'd adore the Viscontis as I started with the Pericles and slowly eased myself into the good stuff. The hard part was tracking the skeleton with my beloved B nib. I hunted those babies for YEARS before tracking them thru reputable sellers on eBay. Then it was just a matter of giving up basic necessities of life for the month to pay for them!

Ghost, dear, you're not helping. *laugh* You were supposed to say "oh, they're lovely to look at but I can't write with them for long."

Ah well. Once I graduate from school in two years, I'll be able to get a high-paying IT job and then I'll be able to look at pens like these. For now I'll stick with the inexpensive ones. Although I'd be totally cool with you writing me and those pens into your will. ;)

Unless I have heart failure when I get my credit card bill, you'll be too old to remember what pens were for by the time it'd do you any good. ;)

I want it to be next Friday already -- by then my VP will be here, and I can order that Duke. Gawd. I have all the patience of a six year old... Hee.

Likewise.

I'm already anticipating my new Carene. You suppose when we get them they'll hear the yelling all the way up in Georgia? :o

Heck, the person I bought the VP body from -- it was cheaper to buy body and nib separately -- may hear me all the way over at her house in the UK! :)

But then we'll have the earth shattering choice to make... what color ink to test in our new babies. :D

Oh, color choice is easy. I've already got some blue cartridges ready to go. (I'll pick up a converter when I can.) We use blue exclusively at my job, and I want to be able to use the VP at work.

The real question is: now that my Lamy doesn't have to have blue ink, what am I going to fill IT with? :)

Hmmm. I just had a thought. The Duke I want to buy -- this one -- has a ruby bit on the cap. So it would be really nifty to have ink that matches it. Any suggestions for a lovely ruby red?

(Yes, I still want Noodlers Nightshade, but I think I may fill my Lamy Vista with that until I can get one of those Laban spiderwebs. Damn, you people are bad for me... *grin*)
