Permanent Markers: Corrosive?

Hi All!

 

Do you think there's any chance a permanent marker's ink may have corrosive effect on metals? In particular, I'm wondering about rhodium plating: I've decided to use a permanent marker to paint the "Aurora" and "Italy" engraving on the cap of an Aurora Talentum. As you can see here, the name of the brand is left un-lacquered by the factory. I've never quite figured out why the company doesn't lacquer the name "Aurora", because it looks waaaaay better with a bit of black paint in it, like here. So I took matters in my own hands, painted it with a Tratto Permanent Marker, and then polished off the excess ink. Now the name is subtly but nicely highlighted and I think it looks great......... but......... will the permanent marker's ink corrode the rhodium plating??

 

I know I should have asked myself this question before, but I didn't realize it could be an issue

Hello Fabio,

 

With the amount of ink involved; I doubt if you have much to worry about. I'm not familiar with the marker brand you mentioned, but if it's the same type of ink that is used in Sharpie permanent markers, (or the like),... it'll probably rub off from wear before it has a chance to corrode anything.

I'm not familiar with the marker brand you mentioned, but if it's the same type of ink that is used in Sharpie permanent markers, (or the like),... it'll probably rub off from wear before it has a chance to corrode anything.
